Geykhery in landscape design - photo-ideas of beautiful compositions

For a long time geyhera practically did not stand out among garden plants. She can be compared to a modest rural girl who dreams of becoming a princess.

And now, the long-awaited moment has arrived: the breeders paid attention to the flower. As a result of their painstaking work, original types of newly-made princesses appeared in the garden.

Botanical characteristics of geykhery

The flower belongs to the perennial colorful plants of the famous herbal family "Stone-hedge".

For the first time a flower was noticed on the rocky mountainside of the North American prairies. Geykher received her exclusive name in memory of the German scientist IG von Geicher.

He was a famous doctor, biologist and, of course, a fan of green plants.

An unusual flower looks like a half-meter rounded bush. Its main feature is luxurious leaves.

Many people believe that this plant is a real gourmet. In one season it can change the color of leaves several times.

No garden flower has so many color options for a leaf plate like geyher.

Its dense original bush consists of a set of leathery leaves with jagged edges. Each of them is kept on a long handle and has a special texture:

  • with a smooth surface
  • corrugated,
  • curly character.

Their coloring is especially impressive:

  • practically black
  • maroon,
  • bright red variations
  • purple color palette,
  • pinkish and pale tones,
  • yellow plates with bright tint,
  • various green shades.

In addition, the leaves are:

  • patterned
  • streaked
  • into small dots,
  • with shapeless spots.

Geicherus blooms in early summer with small cute buds, which are collected in the original panicles.

In form, they resemble bells, therefore, looking at them, it seems that they are now ringing.

Exclusive photos of geyher varieties during flowering and magnificent decoration help to appreciate the unusual garden princess. They are clearly visible colors and shades of buds:

Only with the arrival of autumn on the site of buds fruits form in the form of a box. By the time of full ripening, more than 20 thousand seeds are stored in it, the size of a poppy seed.

Due to its vast diversity and detailed description of geyher, it is quite often used to decorate the backyard zone. And designers create unique landscape masterpieces from a colorful flower.

Color harmony in landscape design

If geykher was once in the role of Cinderella in a flower bed, today she leads the list of applicants for decorating the flower zone.

The varieties derived by breeders do not cease to amaze garden art lovers. Therefore, a magnificent plant - geykher, in landscape design has taken its place of honor.

It can be seen in various green compositions:

  • flower and bush mixborders,
  • in the company of proud roses, irises, ferns and lilies,
  • in combination with tulips, crocuses and daffodils, geraniums and hosts,
  • in the formation of rock gardens,
  • for decoration of borders,
  • in container options on the garden plot (gazebos, terraces),
  • for design of coastal zones of artificial reservoirs.

The bright leaves of geyher serve as an irreplaceable accent of green garden plantings throughout the season. They are used for the harmonious transition from plant to plant. Thus, the emptiness of the area during the flower off-season is completely filled.

Geicher does not require special care. Perfectly take root in the sun and shady places. It is frost-resistant. Easily propagated. Not sick.

On the shown photo geykher looks wonderful in the company of their relatives.A variety of shades of its leaves, allows you to create a colorful motley corner on the site.

Many gardeners have noted that it is a pleasure to work with a geyher. It is in harmony with any plants at the dacha and always looks royally.

Surrounded by charming geyher varieties

Many people believe that the only queen of the garden is a rose. And indeed, it is out of competition. But thanks to the hard work of breeders, geyheru can be put in the place of a pretty princess.

After all, the abundance of various colors and forms of flower foliage and original paniculate buds has no analogues among plants.

Considering the photos below with the names of species and varieties of geyher, try to plunge into the charming world of flowers.

Unsurpassed blood red geicher

This type of flower is considered the ancestor of most varieties of this lovely plant. Geicherra blood red refers to a very hardy mountain view.

Because of the cute little buds, the flower is called a coral bell. The leaf plates are mostly green. Some specimens are distinguished by subtle marbling in a light green tone.

To the touch the foliage is very dense, in comparison with other types of geyhery. They have a round shape, edges with notches that look quite stylish compared to other plants.

Amazingly, some varieties of blood-red geyher have white or cream spots on the leaves.

Small buds originally assembled into a slender whisk. Often they are painted in red, coral or pink. Cute bells attract not only insects, but also lovers of natural beauty.

Historical facts show that some Native American tribes used geyher blood-red flowers to treat various ailments. If you grow such a beauty in your country house, then you can “recover” only from its presence.

"Delicious" geykhera Marmalade

When you hear the word marmalade, a pleasant aftertaste appears in the mouth. And when you see flowers similar to candy - you get a sweet pleasure.

  • yellow
  • orange,
  • bright red,
  • with red back:
  • with a purple back of the sheet.

They are assembled in the basal lush outlet that looks gorgeous in a flower bed. The plant develops very quickly and is not afraid of the winter cold. It is applied in various designs of a garden landscape.

Fire geyhera Cajun Fire

Try to imagine a burning fire among the magnificently flowering plants. Someone will say: "This is impossible." In fact, Cajun Fire geyher is such a “fire”.

A feature of the species is a change in the coloring of large leaves of a matte character. In early spring, they are rich red. In the summer - almost black tone, with a barely noticeable hint of red.

Delicate geyher Cherry Cola

A small, cute bush with rounded foliage of a wavy character is an indispensable decoration of the dacha. Interestingly, when the leaves age, they change their color.

From orange or reddish frosted leaf plates become yellowish with a green tint.

Pedicles of Cherry Cola geyher are colored brown, which is almost invisible behind coral or red buds.

Since the flower grows very slowly, and its maximum height is about 20 cm, it is advisable to think about it before starting the formation of a garden flowerbed.

Geyhera glitter silver

Most often, the plant grows up to 25 cm in height and is characterized by unusual silver leaves. On each of them are viewed black streaks. The back side of the Glitter geyher sheet plate is painted lavender.

Interestingly, in the spring on the plant pink leaves bloom, which eventually "dress" in silver. The buds are usually large in size. In appearance resemble fuchsia. Bloom in June and bloom magnificently until the beginning of September.

"Sweet" geyhera Caramel

When you see a plant in the garden with golden-orange leaves, resembling sweet caramel, you unwittingly want to taste them. In fact, we face the refined geicher Caramel, which can be admired for an infinitely long time.

Its large leaves, barely born in spring, are colored red. Over time, they become yellow or amber tone. The scarlet shade remains only from the back side.

During the lush flowering on the bushes there are flower stalks with cream buds in the form of small bells.

Majestic Geicher Purple Castle

Under such a chic name is a collection of all varieties of geyher small-flowered.

They are distinguished by the abundant presence of branched rhizomes, which contributes to rapid reproduction. As a result, the plant is used to decorate the borders along the garden paths.

Also, it is considered an indispensable attribute in the creation of rock gardens.

Geicher has large maroon purple leafy plates. The original color makes the plant indispensable in the garden flowerbed throughout the summer.

Interestingly, in ancient times, purple paint was considered one of the most expensive goods of itinerant merchants.

Having planted the Purple Castle to the geicher at the dacha, it is quite possible to feel that you own a valuable “pearl”.

Another purple beauty - Geicher Melting Fire

When a plant only blooms in early spring, its leaves are colored purplish-reddish.

But over time, they become darker, acquiring a special saturation. The back of the leaf plate of the flower has a red tint.

When exposed to sunlight, an unusual shine appears. A truly amazing sight.

Geicher Melting Fire forms a compact bush of rosette leaves with a wavy structure. On erect peduncles, open-flowed small flower buds resemble miniature bells. During the lush flowering, they are painted in a dazzling white color.

Multicolored Geicher Zipper

For lovers of flowers with a variegated color fit geiher Zipper. It differs in such shades:

It is especially striking that the flower changes its color over time. In the spring leaves of orange color, in the summer - golden. The back side is decorated in purple color, which gives the plant some intricate charm. Geyhera blooms in July with white or cream small bells.

Spotted geyher Midnight Rose

In 2008, at the exhibition of garden plants in England, Geicher Midnight Rose was recognized as one of the best varieties of green space.

It is distinguished by the incredibly saturated color of the heart-shaped foliage of a miniature bush. Most often it is a maroon shade, on which specks of pink color are scattered.

The plant grows about 25 cm and blooms in early June with small bells.

The name of this variety - Midheuca geyhera reminds of the unfailing queen of the garden. This plant can rightly be attributed to the royal nobility in the world of flowers.

Geicher Palace Purple

This variety has been used in gardening since 1980. It was bred by combining several flower species, one of which is a small-flowered plant variety. Despite its hybrid origins, Palace Purple geyhera is a garden perennial.

It amazes with the beauty of its cherry leaves, which cover the soil with an incredibly lush carpet. The shape of the sheet plate resembles ivy or spiky maple. From above it is decorated with purple color, and from the back side beetroot.

If the summer is lingering heat, the leaves fade, gaining a bronze color.

Bell-shaped buds are collected in paniculate inflorescences, which are located on erect peduncles. Most often they are beige and look original against the background of cherry foliage.

Geicher Hybrid

Thanks to the unsurpassed talent of breeders, the geicher hybrid appeared. One of the popular varieties of this class of plants is the American geyher. It was obtained by crossing three source materials: small-flowered, American and hairy geyhera.

The plant may have leafy plates with blunt or sharp tips. And the framing is almost always wavy. They are painted in purple, purple and brown. During flowering on the bushes of the hybrid geyher, graceful bells appear.

Geykhera Kometa

The unusual name of the plant hints at the "unearthly" origin. Geykhera Kometa differs in jagged leaves with a delicate edge. They compactly go from the main rhizome and form a beautiful outlet.

From its center a slender peduncle rises about 40 cm high, adorned with small red buds. Bright bells gently sway, even with a light breeze of the wind, than attract new fans.

A truly wonderful flower!

Plant varieties

Before you plant a plant in your plot, you need to know what varieties there are. We picked up most popular varieties for landscape design:

Cultivation and care

Consider growing geykhery in the open field (in the garden). For her need constant care. There are two options for plant reproduction:

  • Seeds. They appear in the box, which is the fruit of the flower. Seeds are small. That is why they need to be planted deep in the ground. It is enough to press a finger. It is best to plant at home, and when the plant becomes developed, it can be transplanted into open ground. Disembarking should be done at the end of autumn so that in spring you have a luxurious flower on your plot. On the plant will appear boxes with seeds, they can be collected and used for reproduction geyhery.
  • Cuttings. In this case, new plants must be taken before the flowers appear. Everything will depend on the variety geyhery that grows in your flower bed. If you do not have time to do this, then the best way to multiply the plant in the middle of July.

Now you need to choose a place for planting a flower. This view is not whimsical, but from choosing the right place much will depend:

  • Registration of the site will look original.
  • Lots of flowers.
  • How long will the flower's decorative properties last?

For planting geyhera best to choose semi-shaded areas in the garden. If the plant is young, then he needs more light and sun.

To do this, plant a plant on the east or west side. This plant is very fond of the sun.

If it is not enough, then the leaves will become green.

It is worth noting: planting geyheru on the sunny side, you need to constantly water it.

How to care for perennial:

  • Peduncles are removed immediately after flowering.
  • Peduncles of plants can be 50 cm. After flowering, they are pruned. Otherwise they will ruin the whole look. The lower leaves of the plant wither and fall away. In order for the flower not to lose its decorative properties, it is necessary to plant the stem of the plant deeper into the ground before the geyher begins to bloom.
  • It is necessary to plant a flower correctly. To do this, choose a plot in the garden, which is protected from cold and wind from the north. In the soil, you can even add ash or chalk, if the acidity of the soil is high. And only after that plant the plant. Excellent geykhera will feel among the stones.
  • If you multiply the flower with the help of seeds, they will ascend in six months. Landing for planting should be loose.
  • Make sure that the water does not fall on the leaves of perennial. Watering must be done every day.

Plant care is required. Otherwise, the geyher will disappear.

Geicher in landscape design, photo

This plant is beautiful looks in single landings. It is best to plant different varieties of perennials and match them in color. For example, in a flower bed you can place dark-colored and light flowers. You can plant a plant of the same color, but with different leaves.

Geichers as soliter are ideal for borders and rabatok. They are planted along the garden path.

It should be noted that these plants don't like open spaces. That is why other flowers should be planted next to them. For example, a good geyher feels close to larch, ornamental grass. They will create a penumbra for the plant. That is what geykher likes.

If you like tall plants, then geyher can be placed at the foot of high daylilies and lilies. Such a flowerbed will look perfect near the wall of a private house.

Geicher can look great in the foreground of a rock garden. You can also plant ornamental shrubs. They will create a beautiful view.

Geykhery and hosts in landscape design

If you plant these two varieties together, then will turn outgood combination. Only need to think about height. Hosts can be cut to the desired height. These flowers are perfectly combined with coniferous trees. They emphasize their pomp and velvet.

If you want to create a flower arrangement, you must also plant a hot-leaf plant. In this case, you can play on the contrast shades of these plants.

Hosts are selected with white stripes. This variety can be combined with different colors, for example, with phlox.

As for geykhery and host, these two plants most like the shadow. That is why they are convenient to plant next to each other.

Now you can find tricolor varieties of these plants. To combine such varieties is very difficult. It is very picky in care. These varieties do not grow well in temperate climates. These varieties of flowers are best combined not with other colors, but with sculptures of marble.

Geicher is a very beautiful flower. You can combine it with different plants. But best of all with coniferous or with hosts.

There are a large number of different species and varieties of this plant, for example, geykher purple tent. Her leaves are completely purple, which looks very impressive.

The plant loves a lot of water, it does not need too much light. That is why it should be planted in the penumbra.

Geicher in landscape design

Flower landscape and geykhera

Due to its unpretentiousness, shade tolerance and frost resistance, elegant inflorescences, bright and lush foliage, a magnificent variety of colors, Geicher is of increasing interest to garden design lovers.

This plant is a grassy short-growing perennial from the Kamenofomkov family. In most cases, the geyher flowers are small, they are located on peduncles up to 60 cm tall, and in some varieties their height can reach 1 m.

Openwork inflorescence consists of a large number of small bells, and geyher leaves surprise with a palette of colors: from the usual green, white, cream, to rich purple, red, brown, gray and silver shades in various combinations.

These beautiful perennials delight in their brightness in early spring and continue their flowering for almost the entire summer period.

Beautiful leaves with rounded or pointed blades are hidden under the snow still green and remain in this form until the arrival of spring.

Therefore, geyhery often use for landscaping ceremonial flower beds and central paths near the house.

Choosing the right landing spot for Geicherra

The undeniable advantage of geyher is good shade tolerance. The best option for growing - semi-shady places, perhaps with a diffused shadow created by deciduous plants and shrubs.

However, in order to achieve a saturated brightness of leaves and a more distinct mosaic on them, when growing geyher it is recommended to plant them in places under the open sun, well protected from wind and cold, subject to regular watering.

The soil should be light and fertile, well drained and moderately moisture-intensive.

You can also plant a plant on a more dense soil, while it is well drained, to make organic additives - compost or rotten wood bark. The most optimal soil acidity is 5.8 - 6.3 pH.

Growing and proper care for Geyher

If the geykher is purchased for planting and growing in spring with an open root system, it can be temporarily put in a container and left in a greenhouse or house. If the plant is purchased at a later time, it can immediately be planted in the ground.

When planting, it is necessary to clean the root system of the substrate, straighten and trim the ends of the roots. In order for the geykher to settle down faster, it is necessary to remove all old leaves before planting.

When planting, it is necessary to make sure that the middle of the outlet is open and not sprinkled with earth, and air voids do not form between the roots.

In nature, geyhery grow in the mountains, where the amount of nutrients is limited. Therefore, the cultivated varieties of geyher do not need constant fertilizing with fertilizers. Occasionally, you can feed them only with mineral fertilizers.

However, it is worth considering that the concentration of fertilizers should be significantly less, about two times than for other garden plants.

Complex fertilizer with a low nitrogen content should be applied in early spring and summer at the end of flowering.

Watering geyhery should be moderate to prevent rotting of the roots.

During dry weather at the beginning of summer, it is necessary to water the plant in a timely and optimal manner so that the lack of moisture does not affect the abundance of flowering, the number and size of inflorescences.

It is very important that the soil is moderately wet in the surface plowed layer where the root system is located. It is advisable to water the plant in the evening or early in the morning.

In order to prevent the roots from drying out and to retain a sufficient amount of moisture in the soil, it is recommended that the autumn season be used to mulch the geyher with peppered foliage or peat.

The plant retains its decorative effect for about 3-5 years, after which the bush begins to bare the middle and decay.

After that, you need to dig a plant, divide it into the required number of parts and transplant.

This procedure should be carried out in the spring, when only new leaves are released, but the plant does not bloom yet, or at the end of the flowering period in summer.

It is possible to replant geykhery and by obtaining cuttings, for this purpose, remove the stalks, shears cut off the aerial parts of the stems. Thus, the cuttings are obtained.

Fresh slices should be sprinkled with a mixture of ash and root-stimulating preparations.

The resulting cuttings are planted in greenhouses or greenhouses, or shady places (depending on the time of year).

The cuttings are planted so that the center of the outlet is located above the surface of the soil. Sand can be used as a substrate. Cuttings should be planted in the soil as they develop; however, geyhery that are well-rooted in the autumn period should not be replanted, but left until spring.

Before winter, the plant is covered with oak foliage. Cut the leaves for the winter is not worth it, because geykhera in this case may die. It is better to remove dried leaves and inflorescences in the spring. Since the base of the plant grows above the level of the soil, it is necessary to spud a bush once a year.

Geicher in landscape design: care and cultivation

December 31, 2015 Alienteu Herb Plants

There are plants that can amaze even the most sophisticated gardeners with their magnificence. One of them is geykhera.

Permanent decorativeness of its leaves and lovely flowers will adequately decorate any garden. Therefore, geykhera in landscape design enjoys increasing popularity. Some consider it an unpretentious plant, others talk about the difficulties in the care.

Let's consider all the details of growing geyhery and draw conclusions independently.

Solitser landing

Elegant geyhery amazing look in single landings. In this case, it is desirable to plant different varieties and correctly combine them by coloring the leaves and inflorescences.

It is possible to organize a flower bed with contrasting geyher, where dark leaves (burgundy, purple) and saturated light (golden, lemon yellow, salmon) plants will alternate.

Or create a flower garden of geyher of the same color, but with foliage of different colors and texture. For example, a flowerbed with a smooth transition of tones looks good: when the purple geyher are replaced by maroon, then red, scarlet, salmon and pink.

So, as soliter bright geyhery are ideal for curbs and rabatok, they can be planted along the garden paths.

But since these plants are not very tall and do not like sunny areas, deciduous and coniferous trees or ornamental grasses (for example, sedge or miscanthus) can be planted in open places near geyher, which will create the necessary partial shade.

Today, in a trend, not only high beds with vegetable crops, but also high beds, on which geyher of different varieties look spectacular.

Geychera (Heuchera) - is a herbaceous perennial from the family of stone-grinding. Although North America is his birthplace, it got its name in honor of the German scientist Johann Heinrich von Geicher.

The plant forms a rosette of leaves on the ground, its diameter is up to 60 cm, leafless flower stalks reach 50 cm. Reddish-pink or white small bells form openwork panicles. After flowering, the fruit is formed in the form of a box with very small seeds.

The leaves are pubescent, rounded-lobed, often divided into several lobes, serrated along the edge.

They are the main decorative value of this plant, as they have different color options, namely: dark green, red, orange, yellow, brown, burgundy, silver, violet with a silver spiderweb.

Types and varieties

In the wild, geyhery occur in two different areas: forests and mountains. Therefore, initially they can be divided into two large species.

Forest more quickly adapt to the conditions of the garden with nutrient and moderately wet soils, since these conditions are close to their natural.

For mountainous species that inhabit rocky terrain, organic-rich and excessively wet soils will be destructive. They need to create certain conditions.

Modern breeders have created species more unpretentious and well adaptable.

Geicher blood red (H.sanguinea) - this is quite a hardy mountain view that feels great in our conditions. In the wild nature, the flowers are reddish in color, hence its nickname Coral Bells - "red bell".

This species was first used in its work by breeders. They created varieties with more powerful, sturdy flower stalks and branched buds. The color of the flowers has a wide range: from white to dark red. Almost all summer, abundant blooms persist.

The leaves of this species differ in density, their color may be just dark green or with silver spots and streaks, and sometimes with beige or white specks. Normally transfers our winters. Prefers partial shade and well-drained soil.

Drought-resistant, but suffers in sunny places.

This species is represented by the following varieties: Alba, Robusta, Splendens, Snowstorm, Splish-Splash, and the Bressingham Hybrids variety group.

Gaikhera hairy (H.villosa) - this is a representative of the forest. The name is due to a distinctive feature - large velvet leaves, as well as pubescent peduncles and petioles.

It has cream-green unremarkable small flowers.

But one of its natural varieties “Bronze Wave” is a champion among the purple-leaved geyher, since its leaves of bronze color can have a diameter of up to 20 cm.

Since it is a forest species, it requires rich soil moisture and humus. Accordingly, it grows well in partial shade. Varietal plants of this species may have light green, purple or bronze leaves. Famous variety - Palace Purple.

Geykher blood-red Grade "Splendens" Geykhera hairy Grade "Bronze Wave"

Geykhera cylindrical (H.cylindrica) - hardy mountain view, characterized by relatively small leaves and rather large flowers. The leaves are rounded with blunt teeth, they have a silver pattern or contrasting veins.

The cylindrical inflorescences are located on high (from 60 to 90 cm) peduncles. In nature, the flowers are greenish beige. Coloring in different varieties can be beige, pink, coral, green. This type requires good drainage, grows in the sun and in partial shade.

Geykhery grades cylindrical: Green Ivory, Greenfinch, Hyperion.

Geicherra American Grade "Green Spice"

Geicherra American (H. americana) - a representative of forest edges, her second name is mountain geranium. The flowers are completely unremarkable yellow-green, and its main advantage in large toothed leaves of variegated color.

Silver spots and purple streaks look unusual against a green background, and the whole lower part of a leaf can also be purple. In some varieties there is a red-crimson stripe along the edge of the leaf, but this phenomenon can be observed only in regions with warm winters.

The most spectacular representative of this species is the variety Green Spice.

Geichera small-flowered (H.micrantha) - has tall (up to 70 cm) brownish flower stalks, on which small beige flowers are collected in openwork panicles.

Beautiful in this species of leaves, something reminiscent of the familiar Norway maple. An interesting detail: in this plant, the winter foliage has a rounded shape, and summer - lobed.

The color is traditionally dark green with beautiful silvery specks, but there are varieties with purple foliage. Breeders have tried to diversify the color of the leaves to black-brown and rich purple-bronze.

Bright representatives of this type of Palace Purple and Bresslngham Bronze. Soils are needed well hydrated, with a small addition of organic matter.

Geichera hybrid (Heuchera x hybrida) - scientists have created a hybrid species geyher. So, as a result of crossing the blood-red, American and small-flowered, a species called geyhera trepukovidnaya (N. x brisoides).

As a result, a longer flowering was achieved, as well as fairly large leaves and flowers. The color of the plants of the new species is white, pink and various shades of red. Green leaves with contrasting veins and specks.

A slight disadvantage is that heavy floral panicles can fall down from the wind.

Difficult hybrids turned out as a result of crossing the geykher of small-flowered, American, hairy and others, they were combined into American hybrids (N. x American).

Preparing for landing

A suitable time for planting geyher is the first half of spring. First you need to choose a place. Since their root system is superficial, this plant does not tolerate either drought or stagnant water. Because of this, lowland areas are not suitable for them.

The important point is the light. Among geyher there are more and less light-loving varieties. However, none of them are desirable direct sunlight. If you do not know what your grade, then the perfect place would be openwork penumbra.

Also the site should be well ventilated, but without drafts.

After we have chosen a landing site, it is necessary to prepare a good drainage (we use small gravel, expanded clay, broken brick, coarse sand, etc.).

Geykhery can not stand the summer stagnation of water, although they normally cope with spring flooding.

In addition to good drainage, the soil in the planting hole must be sufficiently moisture-intensive (otherwise the plant will suffer from a lack of water), light and breathable.

On heavy clay soils, it is imperative to add humus based on straw or sawdust, chopped wood bark, chopped straw, chips, sand, perlite. Organic and mineral fertilizers need to be made in half less than usual for other plants.

The required acidity of the soil also depends on the type of plant. Forest geyhery and their varieties prefer a slightly acidic (pH up to 6.3) or neutral reaction and sufficiently nutritious soil.

And mountain species and their varieties prefer neutral and slightly alkaline soil, so for them ash can be added to the wells.

It will not only reduce the acidity of the soil, but also add the necessary micronutrients.

If you plant a seedling purchased at the store, then carefully inspect it.

With a large number of foliage and poorly developed root system, some of the largest leaves must be removed. So the plant will have more strength to take root in the new place.

Note that the middle of the outlet should not be covered with earth. The approximate distance between seedlings is 20-25 cm.

Landing geyhery

Ideally, you should try to plant geyheru in semi-shaded areas, where there is a moderate amount of sunlight and mostly in the morning. Otherwise, you need to strictly follow the regularity of watering.

Geicher grows well in the soil of almost any type (it is desirable only that it was not acidic). It should be remembered that the plant can not tolerate the accumulation of moisture at the roots. Geyher planted either by seed or seedlings.

Preferred rassadny method. It increases the likelihood of rich and beautiful flowering.

Pre-seedlings are grown in a special container-greenhouse. After that they are transplanted into the open ground, 3 cm depth is enough, the distance from each other is at least 20-30 cm.

It is desirable that the soil was loose, it will ensure the roots of the air supply. It grows in about 20-30 days.

In the first year of growth it is undesirable to feed the geyher. Recommended regularly, but at the same time moderately watered, not more than three times a week. You need to water the area directly under the bush.

On particularly hot days it is allowed to water several times, mostly in the morning and in the evening.

Problems the gardener may face

The main cause of diseases such as spotting, rust and powdery mildew is a glut of fertilizers. Also, sometimes the cause of problems is the accumulation of water at the roots.

Powdery mildew can be eliminated with a fungicide. At occurrence of spotting it is necessary to make pollination by Bordeaux liquid no more than 2-3 times a month.

For geyhery, both caterpillars and various types of snails are extremely scary, fortunately there is now a large selection of powerful insecticides that are effective in combating these pests.

Geicher and flower landscape

To give originality to flowerbeds, sometimes a plant with large leaves of various colors and shades is used - this is a geyhera, which, due to this, received wide distribution in landscape design. The plant came to us from North America and, thanks to the efforts of breeders, received a more exotic bright color and successful settlement in our flowerbeds.

Popular plant varieties

All modern varieties of geykher obtained from the main types:

  • Geyherus fibrous (H. villosa) - A plant with elegant velvet leaves and inconspicuous green-cream flowers.
  • American Geicher (H. americana) - forest view with attractive leaves up to 20 cm in height. The color of leaves is brown-purple, have a rounded heart-shaped form with long petioles. American geyher blooms in June with yellow-green flowers.
  • Geicher blood red (H. sanguinea) - a plant with dense foliage of green color. The shape of the leaves is round dentate. Flowers in the form of red bells on peduncles up to 50 cm. The plant blooms from June to August.
  • Geicher is cylindrical (H. cylindrica) - A plant with green, round-heart-shaped foliage. Differs in large cylindrical inflorescences. Flowers can be green, beige or coral.
  • Geicher small-color (H. micrantha) - The plant has leaves with gray-silver spots, in form similar to a maple leaf. The flowers are small with cream-pink flowers, placed on peduncles up to 60 cm high. It blooms from late May to late July.

Did you know? The full collection of geykher varieties has more than 400 copies and is increased annually by several dozen. With the help of crossbreeding, breeders brought out more vibrant hybrid varieties of geyher:

  • With foliage of red color ("Purple Palace", "Black Bird", "Cherry Cola"),
  • With yellow foliage (“Marmelade”, “Key Lime Pie”, “Citronelle”),
  • With silver foliage (“Mint Frost”, “Stormy Seas”, “Can Can”, “Regina”),
  • With spotted foliage ("Midnight Rose", "Color Dream", "Hercules"),
  • With chic colors of red, white or lingonberry color (“Alba”, “Bressingham Hybrids”, “Robusta”, “Snowstorm”, “Splendens”, “Splish-Splash”).

How to create conditions in your garden for geyhery

Growing geyhery in the garden is not a time consuming process. The plant will please you if you carry out the correct planting and minimum care for geyhery. When planting it, do not worry about the neighboring plants on the site. Geykhera perfectly coexists with daylilies, primroses and decorative cereals. The young leaves of the plant are translucent. But over time, they thicken and darken. If the lower leaves are fallen, and the stem is bare, it is necessary to deepen the plant with the earthy clod before flowering. Trimming the peduncles after flowering, you will give the plant a more aesthetic look. By following the simple tips, you will achieve that your plant looks great in a flower bed and in the garden.

Did you know?Geicher used Indians as a medicinal plant for fever and diarrhea and as a wound healing agent.

Requirements for lighting and soil

Geykhera feels great both in the sun in the penumbra of other plants, and under a small tree in the shade, therefore the best place for her is the east or west side. But one should also take into account the specific features of the plant: brightly colored leaves need higher illumination, this will give them a brighter color. For example, a plant with red leaves in the shade turns green.

Geicher is not demanding on the choice of soil. But if you want to have a beautiful plant on your plot, then you need to take into account several factors: first, Geyhera does not tolerate acidified soil. The optimum pH for it should be 5-6 units. Secondly, the plant does not tolerate stagnant water in the roots. Therefore, planting geyheru, take care of good drainage. All other difficulties the plant tolerates easily.

Did you know? The most capricious are yellow, red and light-green geyher.

Watering and feeding the soil

Watering the plants should be moderate, in a hot time - once a week, although the geykher withstands a short dry period well. To prevent rotting of the roots, it is necessary to sprinkle the roots with soil mixed with fine expanded clay, sand or perlite.

Since the plant in its homeland grows on stony ground, and it is not very fertile, it is necessary to make fertilizer moderately. Use universal fertilizers for decorative-flowering or decorative leafy plants, according to the type of plant. The dose of fertilizer should be halved from the recommended in the instructions.

In the vicinity of shade-tolerant plants

Since geykhera best feels in the shade and partial shade, it can be combined with other shade-loving plants. So, hosts and ferns of all kinds will become ideal companions of geyhery.

If you prefer flowering plants, plant a center near the geyher. In this case, note: a broken heart of pink color is best combined with geyher of purple, burgundy and purple hues.

Also, in the vicinity of the geyher of salmon color, cute blue forget-me-nots look good.

For those who do not represent their site without large flowers, there is also an excellent design solution. Multi-colored geykhery can be planted at the foot of tall daylilies and lilies. It is best to arrange such a picturesque flowerbed near the walls of a country house.

Alpine Hill

Geyhery look good in the foreground of rock garden.

The best "company" they will make the same daylilies, as well as stunted conifers, neatly trimmed dekorativnolistvennye shrubs and cereals.

Of course, these are not all possible variations of compositions in which geyher can play the first violin.Experiment and create unique flower gardens that will make your garden unmatched!

Popular varieties Geykhera

Many species in the wild grow in rocky terrain on poor soils in North America, and therefore they take root in our gardens in the middle zone.

Divide the types of decorative geyhera into 2 groups:

The plant attracts attention with its leaves, the color range of which is very wide. To date, more than 400 varieties have been bred, many of which are grown by our gardeners.

Especially popular are the types of cylindrical shape, as well as American and blood-red. The latter have very bright, dense foliage. Based on this species, many varieties and hybrids were obtained. Geicher blooms from mid-summer to early autumn. The plant is very unpretentious in the care. The most popular varieties - "Monet" and "Hercules."

Heuchera American species has rounded foliage with various shades and yellow flowers.

Geykhery cylindrical very large leaves. Inflorescences are characterized by a cylindrical shape with rich coral or red colors.

Velvet leaves are characteristic of Geicherus fibrum. Their distinctive feature of the variety is the large size of a triangular shape.

Planting in open ground

In order for a flower to grow well, it is necessary to choose the right plot for it. Prefers plant light soil with a high content of nutrients. Can not be planted in the lowlands with stagnant water. Geykhera flower is shade tolerant, but the best place for it will be the eastern side of the site, lit in the morning.

The plant is not aggressive and gets on well in one flower bed with other perennials. Especially delightfully look flower compositions from different varieties.

Before planting, the selected area is dug up and make river sand or pebbles. Holes suit the size of the root system. Planted seedlings with a pitch of 25 cm.

After planting, it is advisable to mulch the plants and water them regularly in the first week, but try not to over-moisten the soil too much. Usually, to get a seedling from an adult bush, the delenka is separated.

Plant nutrition and fertilizer

In the first year after planting the flower is not fertilized. Then they begin, in the period of active growth, to make complex compositions depending on the variety. Choose mineral mixtures for flowering or decorative hardwood. Perennials need to be fed after flowering.

The dose recommended by the fertilizer manufacturer should be reduced by 2 times.

Conditions for normal development and growth

Although the plant can be called unpretentious, it is still necessary to create certain conditions for its normal growth. The flower requires scattered shadow, high-quality drainage and good permeable soil.

Geykhera will retain even in heat its beauty and decorativeness, if it is planted in the shade of a large tree. Only for krasnolistnyh varieties require a lot of sun, as in bright light, their color becomes more saturated.

The root system of the plant is very close to the soil surface, so regular watering is important. In no case should not allow the soil to dry out, otherwise Geicher will die.

It is desirable to mulch the bushes. A layer of sawdust or tree bark will help retain moisture near the roots and prevent weed grass from sprouting.

Flowerbed is regularly weeded and loosened. Conveniently, these procedures are carried out the next day after watering.

With age, the bushes with age lose their decorativeness - their middle begins to gradually become bare. In this case, Geicher can be rejuvenated - dig, split with a shovel into pieces and re-seated. It is better to carry out such activities at the end of summer, after flowering or in early spring, even before the leaves bloom. The flower transplant transplants almost painlessly and immediately begins to grow actively.

An important caveat of care is that the foliage that dries out in the fall cannot be removed because it helps to winter without loss, covering the roots and keeping warm around them. Before wintering, only flower stalks should be removed. In addition, cover in winter varieties with light leaves. It is enough to sprinkle them with bushes of fallen mass.

Methods of breeding a flower bed

The simplest method that is convenient to combine with transplanting is the division of an adult bush. The most suitable time for this is early spring or autumn. Geyheru dig, and then with a sharp tool separate the outlet with leaves. A small bush is planted slightly deeper than the mother plant grew.

Another more labor-intensive breeding method is grafting. Carry out the procedure in the middle of summer, which requires cutting the branches with a length of about 6 cm, and then rooting them in a greenhouse. After 3-4 weeks roots will appear on the cuttings, after which they can be planted in the garden.

Another flower in its garden is sometimes propagated by seed. In this case, the flower stalks do not cut, but leave until the seeds mature. This technique is very time consuming and is used mainly by breeders.

Unfortunately, Geykher, grown the last way, does not save varietal characteristics, and usually grow plants close to wild.

Plant Diseases and Pests

These grassy plants for open ground, as a rule, rarely get sick. But if you break the order of care, powdery mildew can hit Geicher. Treatment - spraying with special fungicides, such as "Topaz" and "Fundazol."

Due to excessive dampness, the leaves of the plant infect brownish spots. So manifests itself rust. Against this disease apply spraying solution Bordeaux fluid.

Geychery juicy leaves love to regale and slugs. Such pests settle in highly waterlogged soil. Periodically, parasites are collected manually or set traps.

How to transplant Geicher autumn in another place?

Usually planted in the fall seedlings grown from cuttings. A very important condition of such autumn works is that the soil around young rosettes must be mulched with wood ash or bark, so that the still weak root system will not be damaged by frost. In the spring, the protective layer is removed.

If there is a need to transplant an adult bush to another place, then first prepare the site. To do this, dig up the earth and make the hole on the size of the roots. Then the bush together with a lump is lowered into a new pit and tightly fall asleep. The soil around the plant is well tamped and shed. Be sure to mulch! It is acceptable to transfer Geykhery in autumn only long before the first frosts start. In the northern regions of the bushes is better to replant in the spring.

Seed propagation

Propagate geyheru seeds is easy. But two points should be considered. First: the seeds do not transfer the parental external characteristics (colors and shapes); even a simple green leaf may grow.

Only very few of these plants will look like a parent or a picture from a bag. Second, after a harvest, geyher seeds can be viable for only six months. Because of this, be attentive to the purchase of seeds, especially the date of packaging.

It should be noted that in special vacuum packaging their shelf life can be extended to one and a half years.

For sowing we prepare a container with sides and always with drainage holes. Cooking loose nutrient soil (30% sand or perlite) with neutral acidity.

The prepared soil must be sterilized (in a microwave oven, pour over boiling water or hold over steam). When it cools down, we moisten well (but it should remain crumbly), pour it into a prepared container and tamp it down.

Seeds are carefully and, if possible, evenly sown over the entire surface of the soil.

Making it easier will help mixing the seeds with a small amount of dry sand. Since geykhery seeds are very small (similar to poppy seeds), they do not need to bury them.

After planting, cover the container with a transparent film or glass and place it in a bright place. For this, the window sill is not a good solution, as it is cold there and there are direct sunlight.

Sprouting will sprout for about three weeks. It is impossible to allow the soil to dry out, as well as excessive waterlogging. Periodically need to air the seedlings, opening for 20 minutes, and after 10 days the shelter can be completely removed.

When there are 3-4 leaflets, seedlings need to dive. Planted in the ground in June, pre-hardening seedlings.

It is also possible planting seeds in the winter in open ground. After the first soil freezes, shallow grooves are made in it and the geyher seeds, mixed with fine sand, are evenly distributed.

The landing site needs something to fence off. and put on this fence spruce, straw or other covering material.

This is necessary in order not to scrape young shoots that appear in late May with a covering material.

Dividing bush

One of the features of geyher is its rapid aging. Therefore, the plant must be periodically (approximately once every three years) rejuvenated.

This should be done when new leaves have already appeared, but have not yet begun flowering.

The plant is dug up, divided into parts (at the same time cut off all dried up and unhealthy) and planted in in advance prepared holes.

You can also propagate geyhery cuttings. They live very well.

To do this, take the tops of the cuttings (3-7 cm) and land in the shade in a suitable light soil, well watered and covered with large PET containers with a cut bottom (leave the lid open).

It is necessary to ensure that the earth does not dry out. The cuttings take root in about a month, and you can remove the bottles in another two weeks. For the winter, these young seedlings should be covered.

Ideas for using geykhery in landscape design

Against the background of the emerald lawn, flower-island islands with geyher bushes of different colors look excellent. It looks no less elegant in the adjacent flower beds of herbaceous perennials adjacent to the lawn.

Compositions where the species alternate with bright leaves of burgundy and purple shades, and varieties colored in golden, lemon yellow and salmon are very harmonious. The flower bed, where several species of geyher are planted, gives the garden a refined and laconic look.

With the help of geyher ornamental bushes, designers decorate presentable ceremonial paths from natural stone or paving stones leading to the house, and winding gravel paths of the garden. It is indispensable in the design of borders, mixborders and rabatok.

Spectacular flower garden - the main element of any garden. Geicherus is used as a background plant for flowering perennials. Its colorful leaves perfectly mask the empty space and combine all the plants into a single composition.

Homeland flower highlands, so geyhera fits into the design of rock gardens and rocky gardens. Because of the small height of the bushes planted in the foreground. Against the backdrop of boulders, it looks very impressive. Decorative perennial acts as a link in group compositions consisting of ornamental shrubs, conifers and cereals.

Terraces, gazebos, barbecue areas decorate geyhery in the vases of the original shape and colors. Until late autumn, colorful leaves decorate the seating area. In gardens, where there is an artificial pond or stream, decorative perennial serves as a decoration of the coastal zone.

Geicher in combination with other colors

Shade-loving plants are perfectly combined with any species of geyher. The composition looks especially harmonious:

  • geykhera
  • ferns,
  • hosts.

Perennial well with coniferous and deciduous trees, they protect it from bright sunlight.

Ornamental grasses can be useful neighbors for any kind of geyher. Particularly successful compositions are obtained with a combination of geyher, miscanthus and sedge. Herbs, like hvoynik, give low perennial bushes fertile penumbra.

When choosing the neighbors in the flowerbed take into account the fact that the flower prefers light penumbra. Geykher bushes with purple, burgundy and purple leaves love to plant near the Dicenter. Dark leaves well shade flowers Dicentre in the form of a broken pink heart.

To obtain a delicate composition, touching blue forget-me-nots are planted on a flower bed next to salmon-colored geyher rosettes. Flower garden with lilies and daylily, broken near the house or the fence, framed with colorful species geyhery.

Perennial plants for flower beds in a shady garden:

  • fern,
  • day-lily,
  • the phlox is paniculata,
  • geyhera small-flowered,
  • astilba,
  • host.

In the sunlit areas you can plant geyher varieties with leaves of pink and red hues, near the stonecrop prominent and sugar lungwort. In mixborders perennial planted next to Coleus and balsamic. For registration borders suitable combination with geyherella.

Selection of landing site

The choice of location largely determines the degree of decorative perennial. The characteristics of the plant depend on where the geyher is planted:

  • leaf color saturation
  • the number and size of inflorescences
  • decorative bush.

Some species geykhery like bright sunlight, others prefer shady places and tracery penumbra. When looking for a place to land you need to consider this feature. Most gardeners prefer to follow general guidelines and place young bushes in the eastern and western parts of the garden where the sun shines on the plants in the morning and towards evening.

Before planting, geyhery need to analyze the composition of the soil and bring it into compliance. Soil requirements:

Areas where rainwater stagnates and snow lasts a long time are not suitable for growing geyher. In such conditions, the plant will hurt and may die from rotting roots. The drainage layer (gravel, crushed stone, expanded clay) is laid on the correctly chosen place, it is necessary for better supply of roots with oxygen.

Types of geyhery

Nature of North America gave the world geyher. At home, it grows in a wooded area, in the mountains and along river banks. It affects a large variety of species of this herbaceous perennial, in natural conditions there are up to 70. In the middle lane 12 most decorative varieties are grown.

Blood red

Homeland - the north of Mexico and the states of Arizona, New Mexico, in the south of the United States. The subtropical plant is distinguished by good frost resistance. Easily tolerates the winters of Central Russia, but does not like heat and drought.

In America, the view with love is called the red bell. The plant strikes with the beauty of low (20 cm), neat shrubs with rounded, jagged leaves. Leaf plates are dense and slightly pubescent.

The plant throws out long and strong flower stalks, they reach 0.5 m in length. The inflorescences have the shape of an oblong panicle 20 cm long. Small flowers resemble bells. Flowering lasts 2 months (June, July). The bells are colored pink, red or crimson.

Mountain geranium is another name for this species of geyher, it comes from the eastern states of North America. Decorative perennial give the bush a beautiful shape and rounded-heart-shaped leaves with long petioles. Shrubs high (0.5 m) with a short rhizome.

Flowering begins in June and lasts about 2 months. The flowers are yellow-green, form inflorescences in the form of a panicle. Flower growers appreciate the view for the spectacular shape of the leaves, it is rounded with beautiful jagged edges.

The leaves are green above, purple below. On the front side of the pattern of red veins. The color intensity varies throughout the season, the brightest it is in spring and autumn. In winter, a raspberry-red border appears on the edge of the sheet.

Geicher American valued for frost resistance. Adult perennial bushes endure frosts down to –34 ° C. Young plants for the winter harbor. Landscape designers plant H. American around artificial and natural reservoirs, include in group plantings, draw up curbs.

You can meet a flower in nature in the valley of the Mississippi River. The plant amazes with the beauty of its large velvety leaves. Pubescence is on the stalks and peduncles. Greenish cream flowers do not make a big impression, they are small and rather inconspicuous.

Geicherus hairy loves fertile, well-moistened forest soil and partial shade. This species grows well in shady gardens. Varieties differ in color variety. Characteristic shades of leaves: light green, purple, apricot, bronze.

Alpine species growing on the Pacific coast. The plant has large bell-shaped flowers, gathered in dense cylindrical inflorescences. Characteristic shades of flowers: beige-green, coral, pink.

Above the rosettes of large, heart-shaped leaves with notches, long (90 cm), powerful peduncles grow. The green background of the leaf plates is decorated with a silver-colored pattern or pattern created by contrasting veins. G. planted cylindrical in well-drained garden soil. She prefers a light penumbra at noon and good lighting at other times of the day.

Small flowers

Geicher amazes with its elegance of small flowers. It is planted in the foreground of flower beds. The leaves are shaped like maple leaves, they have an original red-brown background color with separate silver spots.

At the time of flowering, the bushes emit rather long peduncles, their length sometimes reaches 60 cm. The peduncles are crowned with a large number of not large, cream or pink flowers. This species is distinguished by unpretentiousness, frost resistance. Decorative qualities of varieties are better disclosed when growing perennial in slightly acidic soil.

The first hybrid geykhery were obtained in France in 1897 by crossing species of geykher small-flowered and blood-red. The great work on hybridization, which Emil Lemoine did in the period from 1902 to 1908, gave impetus to the selection of new varieties.

Unlike its ancestor of the blood-red geyher, in hybrid forms the size of the leaf plates is larger, the flowers are larger, and the peduncles are more powerful. Abundant flowering lasts at least 2 months. Typical shades of the colors:

During flowering, the hybrid geyhera resembles a festive firework display. The leaves are large, green, speckled with contrasting veins. Color specks white or cream. Decorative rosettes reduce wind and rain, large peduncles fall under the pressure of the elements.

Cold-resistant perennial, tolerates frosty winters, without losing leaves. This remarkable quality was appreciated by landscape designers and they successfully use perennial in the design of homestead plots of country houses and park areas.

The plant forms small rosettes with a diameter of up to 15 cm, formed by three and five lobed leaves. The size of the leaf plate does not exceed 7 cm. During the flowering of the geykher, the gooseberry leaves emit powerful peduncles (65 cm), topped with dense, snow-white inflorescences.

Hybrid forming low bushes up to 20 cm. Eyes attract lightly pubescent leaves of large size. From above they are copper-red, and from the bottom they are painted in a smooth red color. Only the leaves on both sides are red. By the fall of the color bushes can vary, they become yellow or light green.

Flowering occurs in mid-July. Flowers of pale pink enhance the decorativeness of caramel. With the help of this plant, flower growers add light colors to the shady corners of the garden, enlivening it and giving it European sophistication.

Interspecific hybrid, obtained by crossing three types: hairy, American, small-flowered. Bushes are quite high (0.45 m), this distinguishes marmalade from other varieties.

Charm of a plant in leaves changing color. The bushes look colorful, since leaf shades are characterized by different shades:

The flowering period begins in June and ends at the end of July. Flowers inexpressive, small. Color ugly, pale pink or greenish. Inflorescences topped with long stalks. Marmalade does not like overmoistening, resistant to drought, heat and frost.

Black bird

Geicher BlackBird name received for the color of the leaves. They have a leathery maroon surface with a pronounced black tint. This variety is used to create a dark background. Flowering plants look at it more effectively.

Purple castle

Geichera Palace Purple is a hybrid that deserved the title of the best perennial of the season at the end of the last century. It was obtained in 1980 by crossing three types: American, small-flowered, hairy.

The species is distinguished by its great growth power; it forms neat, rounded curtains up to 30 cm high. The purple shoots are covered with beautiful leaves that are very similar in shape to the leaves of ivy or maple. The top of the sheet plate is glossy, red-cherry with a metallic sheen, the bottom of the beet color. Beautiful coloring is preserved in winter and serves as a garden decoration.

Blooming Purple Castle from June to August. Perennial throws straight and long peduncles (45 cm). During flowering, panicled inflorescences of a delicate beige color resemble a tender cloud hovering over a carpet of bright leaves.

Palace Purple prefers shade, partial shade and neutral soil. In the design of the garden, it is indispensable. Florists planted it in rock gardens. Perennial beautifully borders garden paths, it looks perfect in the foreground of flower beds. The Purple Castle is used as an element of a group composition on lawns and in rabatki.

Cherry cola

A long flowering period is common to all hybrid forms. Cherry Cola blooms profusely for two months, decorating a flower bed with inflorescences of white, pink or red color. The height of adult bushes does not exceed 20 cm. They are compact, they do not fall apart during regrowth, keeping their shape.

The rosette is formed from leaves of pink or salmon color with an ashy tint. Older leaves are painted in dark colors and are located around the perimeter of the rosette. The center of the bush is lighter, it is formed by young pink leaves. During the flowering period, the plant throws out low thin flower stalks.

Decorative leafy perennial deserved love florists. By the popularity of geykher in second place after the host. Rich colors, an abundance of varieties attract flower growers, the fashion for decorative perennial does not pass. The bright leaves of modern hybrids sprinkle gardens like precious gems. Flowering plants make flower arrangements openwork.

Preparing the plant for winter

The faded and yellowed leaves of geyher envelop the roots of the plant and help to survive the winter. The wintering of the geykher is better with additional shelter for the winter with the help of fallen leaves. And in the spring, after removing the shelter, it is necessary to cut the last-year leaves of the plant with shears. Important! In no case do not cut the leaves of geyhery for the winter.

Geykher transplant

The question arises, when is it better to replant the geyher - in spring or autumn? Repotting plants should be carried out in March or April.

Ornamental plants remain up to five years, in the future the plant needs to be transplanted. For this you need:

  1. Dig up a bush of a plant and remove dry leaves.
  2. If you do not plan to seat, then after removing rotten and dry roots with a sharp knife, reduce the root portion to at least 3 outlets. Sections can be sprinkled with charcoal or cinnamon.
  3. In the hole when planting we add a little ash to neutralize the acidity in the soil, and the soil can be shifted with sand or perlite.
  4. Planted so as not to sprinkle the central kidney, and water the plant.

Geyhery autumn transplant is better not to. Important!Even the most beautiful geyher lose their decorative effect over time, therefore they need rejuvenation.

Breeding methods

Consider the methods of reproduction geyhery, their advantages and disadvantages.

Propagation of geyher seeds must be used to create a large amount of planting material. Seeds are used only fresh, it will significantly increase their germination. Growing seedlings carried out in containers in the greenhouse or on the windowsill. Sowing of seeds is superficial, carried out in the soil with the addition of perlite or vermiculite. Shoots should be expected in 2-4 weeks. After the appearance of 2-3 leaves, you must dive into separate pots.

Since most varieties of geyher are hybrids, growing geyher from seed at home will lead to the emergence of plants, in most cases not similar to the mother plant. Only some of them will contain maternal symptoms.

This method is used in May - June, before the flowering of the plant. To do this, cut off the outlet without the root from the main bush and plant it in a special mini-greenhouse - under a jar or canister into the ground with the addition of perlite or peat and sand. Shading in this case is carried out necessarily. Very important is the care of the plant:pruning leaves to reduce evaporation, watering means for rooting plants. The successful rooting is indicated by the appearance of young leaves. This can happen in 3-4 weeks.

The use of geykhery in landscape design

In landscape design geykheru used for curb disembarkation or in the design of ponds on stones. Due to the bright color of the foliage, geyher is often placed as an accent plant against a green background to create beautiful compositions with geyher in the garden. This plant is compact and well friends with other, not even large plants. Now the work of breeders is focused on increasing the geyher flowers, a bouquet of which will delight you throughout the month. Often the plant is used to hide problem areas of the garden. It is lush and can fill the void in the periods between the flowering of other plants. Due to its unpretentious geyhera becoming more common.

The main pests of geykhery, ways to combat them

Geicher does not belong to capricious plants, so rarely it hurts. But improper plant care can damage the foliage with powdery mildew, rust, gray rot and spotting. To prevent these diseases, it is necessary to fertilize according to the instructions and make sure that the roots do not stagnate water. In case of illness, the plants must be treated with chemicals.

If the leaves of the plant are covered with a whitish bloom - it is powdery mildew, and treatment with a fungicide will help in this case. If black or red spots appear on the leaves, it is spotting or rust. Treat the plant twice a month with a solution of Bordeaux liquid, and you will save it from the disease.

In the case of rotting of the roots, it is necessary to cut off the socket to a healthy tissue and transplant the plant into the ground with the addition of perlite or peat and sand. It is necessary to fight pests with the help of insecticides.Sometimes snails, weevils, caterpillars, slugs, leaf nematodes eat the leaves of the plant and spoil its decorative qualities.

Basic rules of care

  1. In early spring, as soon as the snow melts, the geyher needs to be watered with warm water and be sure to sweat. Otherwise she will perish from the withering.
  2. After the soil warms up in the sun, shading can be removed.

Loosen the soil and sprinkle with a thin layer of compost or humus (mulch). For geyhery watering is very important. Its surface root system may suffer from drying out. Therefore it is necessary to constantly monitor this.

Water only infrequently, but so that the earth is well saturated with moisture, especially under the leaves, pour directly under the root. It is better to do this in the evening when the sun is already setting.

If geykhera landed in good soil, it is enough spring bedding of humus. Since excess fertilizer can lead to diseases. Young plants need additional planting for two seasons.

Since geyhery sufficiently cold-resistant, it does not need shelter for the winter. We harbor only very young saplings and subwinter crops.

Sometimes plants that have a weak root system (most often very young or very old) suffer from root swelling. In this case, the plant should be planted at the usual depth and mulch.

To avoid this, in the beginning of summer it is necessary to produce a slight hilling.

  • As new leaves grow, old ones need to be gradually removed.
  • Not all types of geyher in our climate have time to ripen the seeds. Therefore, as soon as the seed pod becomes brown, it must be cut off immediately.
  • Pests and diseases

Despite the sufficient demands in the care, geyhery almost not subject to disease.

Problems can create an excess of moisture and organic matter, as well as increased acidity of the soil. These factors can cause spotting or powdery mildew.

But if you follow the rules of care problems should arise.

Geyher pests can be called slugs and snails. From young plants they need to be collected manually late in the evening (as they are hiding during the day) or use metaldehyde.

For the prevention of young plants can be powdered ash.

The value of geykhery in landscape design is its high decorative effect for a long time. From the time the young leaves grow back to frost, it will maintain the beauty of your garden. Options for its use are very diverse.

In any flower arrangement or flower garden there is a place for geyhery. These beauties are good in monoplanting when their varieties with different leaf color are combined.

Therefore, whatever troubles they take care of, they will pay for it in full with their unique, mysterious charm.
