DIY garden paths - construction rules, material selection

Without country paths it is impossible to imagine a suburban area: they not only connect the house with other objects, but also perform an important decorative function. Choosing the right material, you can create a harmonious picture in a single style, and building paths in the country with your own hands - to turn a few hundred into a unique and comfortable territory.

What kind of tracks can you make?

The main reason for dividing country paths and paths into types is the material from which they are built. Its diversity allows you to choose the best option for landscaping.

Natural stone is notable for its natural beauty and nobleness, but its price is quite high.

Natural stone is ideal for building curved paths: stone elements are arranged in a chaotic manner, so it’s easy to make smooth bends

A tree is perfect for arranging the territory in a rustic style.

The natural texture on wood saws depends on the type of wood, but an interesting effect can be achieved using special impregnations and varnishes.

Brick is a wonderful material, especially if the house is also built from it.

For the construction of garden paths, a regular solid building brick is not suitable, it is better to use special paving types that are not afraid of water and frost

Paving slabs or paving stones will serve for a long time and faithfully.

Using paving stones of different colors, as well as a specific styling scheme, you can create an amazing original drawing that is suitable specifically for your garden

Simple and inexpensive gravel trails are also appropriate in the garden.

Gravel is not good near the landscaped area around the house, but in the garden or near the stream - it combines better with wildlife

Concrete can be used to create unique road tiles.

In construction stores, you can purchase special plastic molds that are used for the manufacture of road concrete elements with your own hands

By combining materials, it is easy to achieve a stylistic fit of the tracks to surrounding natural and artificial objects.

You can combine completely different materials: natural stone and multi-colored gravel, wooden boards and river pebbles, brick and concrete

Track and landscape layout

Paths are the same important strategic part of a suburban area as a house, a garage or a bathhouse, so you need to think about their arrangement before building buildings and utility rooms. For convenience, it is better to draw up a diagram by drawing it by hand or using a computer designer program. Having identified the important points, it is necessary to connect them with paths - straight or curved, depending on the terrain.

It is better if all objects, including a garden, a kitchen garden, greenhouses, a bathhouse, arbors, are present on the diagram - paths are a connecting element between them. Material for the construction of communications should be combined with buildings and surrounding decorative elements.

The paths on the summer cottage do not have to be the same: solid and stepwise, straight and curved options are perfectly combined

Drawing up a diagram or plan of the site, you can identify which plants and shrubs will be planted - this will help when choosing material for the construction of paths

If it often rains in your area, you need to think through a drainage system and dig plums along the edges of the roads so that water does not stagnate. When doing the construction of country paths with your own hands, remember: when freezing, water will spoil the material - wood, brick, concrete. Powerful trees should not grow near the coatings, as their root system will easily violate the integrity of the roads.

The more detailed the preliminary planning, the brighter the picture of the future country landscape will be indicated and the easier it is to come to the choice of design elements

3 Best Budget Options

Owners of villas and luxury cottages will most likely not mess with sand and stones, but will invite a famous landscape designer and a team of specialists. Anyone who independently arranges the garden knows perfectly well that it is not necessary to use expensive natural stone or collectible paving stones for the construction of original and convenient walkways. Therefore, we consider three options for creating tracks from affordable and inexpensive materials: cement, brick and wood. Be sure, the result will surprise you!

Option # 1 - a trail of cement leaves

Lovers of short-cut lawns will never trade silky green grass for dense thickets of bushes or flower beds, and even more so will refuse the path crossing the luxurious carpet in front of the house. But there is a tricky option, in which you can maintain the integrity of the lawn and at the same time arrange a kind of path that allows you to cross the grass directly.

Decorative concrete leaves are just an option that can be replaced with other elements: human footprints, geometric shapes, animal silhouettes

To build a miracle path, you will need an ordinary cement mortar and a plant that can be found somewhere nearby - burdock, or rather, its large leaves.

The leaves of burdock can be replaced with any other, most importantly, that they are large. As an option - the use of several different leaves

In a small container, knead the solution according to the instructions and spread the thick mass on a large sheet of burdock. What is not a form for filling?

Make sure that the cement mortar has the necessary consistency: too thick will lie unevenly, and the liquid will not retain its shape

After the sand-cement mixture has completely set, the sheet is removed. We get the original decorative tile - the main element of the track.

As you see, nature turned out to be the best artist-decorator - a decorative leaf with a natural pattern will not violate the harmony of the lawn or garden

It remains to prepare a place for styling. Using a scoop or small spatula, gently remove a piece of sod so that a shallow hole forms.

The advantage of a step-by-step device for a lawn is the absence of a special tool: for example, a child’s scoop is enough for pitting

We lay the tiles in the prepared nest, then do the same with the rest of the elements. The track is light, airy, harmoniously complementing the lawn. It’s nice and safe to walk on beautiful decorative leaves even in rainy weather.

Option # 2 - solid brick walkway

Brick is a universal material. You don’t have to think about how to make a path in the country, if you have at hand the necessary amount of this durable material, as if specially created for the construction of reliable coatings. Its advantage is that it is ideal for almost any country style. Red bricks, like gray ones, look amazing against the background of a building from the same material, blend perfectly with the tree, harmoniously fit into the natural environment. One piece of advice is to use only special, paving material.

The advantages of the brick are obvious: it is durable, lasts for decades, easy to fit, does not slip even in the rain, has aesthetic value

The main stages of construction:

  • Boundary and soil extraction.
  • Preparation of sand and gravel base.
  • Brick laying.
  • Filling the voids with sand.

The width of the trench depends on the size of the brick and the pattern that will be laid out of them. The minimum width of the path is 0.9 m. We define the boundaries and designate them with pegs with a stretched building cord. We take out the turf and tear out a shallow trench. Its edges need to be strengthened with boards - in the next two years they will serve as an additional emphasis for the curb. Then they can be removed, and the grooves covered with gravel or pebbles.

The basis for a brick consists of two layers. Lower - gravel and sand of a large fraction. After backfilling, the gravel mixture must be evenly distributed along the entire length of the track and rammed.

To determine the depth of the trench for laying a brick path is simple: you need to add the thickness of both layers of the base and the dimensions of the brick itself

Tampering the gravel layer is mandatory: loose material will provoke the movement of the remaining layers and as a result will destroy the brick surface

The top layer consists of one sand. Aligning it along the track, simultaneously press to make the layer dense enough. It is better to tamp segments of 20-30 cm, so the base will be better.

After making sand filling, it is necessary to level the surface: pull a special device on yourself, while pressing on it so that the sand lies in a dense layer

The next step is laying bricks along the boards. Before laying each element, dig a small hole, then put a brick in it and adjust its position with a wooden hammer. Products placed on the end will play the role of a border.

For the "clogging" of bricks in the sand, it is better to use a special rubber mallet: metal or even wooden can damage the structure of the material

Given the pattern of laying, fill the distance between the curbs with bricks, easily hammering them into the sand and regularly checking the level.

Focusing on a specific element, do not forget about the integrity of the track: regularly check the horizontal arrangement of bricks with a level

The last step is to fill the gaps between the bricks with sand. Gently sprinkle sand until it is level with bricks. Water the track and repeat the last operation. In the next few days, you can adjust the position of the bricks.

An ordinary brush for cleaning will help to evenly distribute sand: with its help, you can easily move sand over the surface and push it between bricks

Option # 3 - use of wooden saw cuts

If you compare wood with stone, then it will certainly lose: wood does not differ in durability and strength of granite or marble. However, when arranging garden paths in the country, elements from this seemingly inappropriate material are used. Wood cuts, while observing the laying technology, are excellent "bricks" for creating a decorative path in a rustic style.

Choosing wood saw cuts, you kill two birds with one stone: “attach” unnecessary sawn trees and decorate the territory with a beautiful and practical path

An old tree can be found right in the country or in the nearest forest. We cut the trunk into small segments - from 10 to 20 cm thick. Thick knots will also come in handy - small round beads are suitable for decorating the site or the edges of the track.

There are several options for arranging a garden path from saw cuts: in one they use flat parts, in the other - in the form of hemp

At the planned site, remove the turf layer and tear out a shallow trench.

When digging the ground when digging a trench, do not take it outside the cottage: it is useful for filling the voids of the track, and the remains can be used for the garden or flower garden

We fill the bottom of the trench with sand, a layer of 5 cm is enough. Tamp and level.

Spread the sawn stumps along the track: it’s easier to imagine how many they will need, and later it’s easier to use when laying

On the prepared base we spread the saw cuts. Using the level, we give them a horizontal position, a wooden sledgehammer or a large hammer is perfect for this. In some places, voids form - they can be filled with small saw cuts.

When stacking large elements, do not worry about the large number of voids that remain between them: they are easy to fill with small stumps, gravel or pebbles

The gaps between the wooden elements are covered with sand or earth. In the spring they can be planted with lawn grass or small flowers - so the track will look more artistic.

To determine how to lay out beautiful decorative paths in the country, just look around. Do not be afraid to use your own technological secrets and design solutions during construction - then the summer cottage will become truly unique.

5 colors that need to be germinated in advance

Many thermophilic flowers, whose tubers are dug up and stored indoors for the winter, need to be germinated before planting in the ground. Otherwise, their flowering may not occur. Learn about the intricacies of this process for five popular tuber plants.

Decorative flowers are eligible for moods. Some tuberous plants include early germination. To anemone, begonia, gloxinia, canna and calla bloomed in the flower bed, you need to not only properly store their tubers, but also take care of the germination of planting material.

Germinating anemones

Anemone is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Ranunculaceae family, which has about 170 species.

Among the huge variety of anemones growing both in the flowerbed and in nature (in the temperate climate of both hemispheres), there are tuberous and rhizome species. Tuberous are more demanding on growing conditions. In dry and hot weather, they must be watered, periodically fed, covered or dug up for the winter.

And so that the tubers wake up faster and get out of a state of rest, they should be germinated before planting in the ground. Indeed, during storage they dry out very much. If the tubers are immediately planted on a flower bed, they will have to wait for seedlings for a long time. In addition, neighboring plants can drown them.

Germination can begin at the end of February, but because of the short daylight, the seedlings will have to be lightened. The optimal period is from mid-March to early April.

Before the procedure, tubers need to be soaked, but they cannot be immersed completely in water, because they cannot be without air. To do this, pour a little water in a small container, add to it, according to the instructions, a fungicide solution (Fitosporin or Maxim Dachnik) or a growth stimulator (Epin or Zircon).

In the resulting liquid, moisten a napkin and wrap tubers in it. In this form, place them for full swelling in a plastic bag. The process can take several hours, depending on the quality of the planting material.

After swelling, place the anemones on a slightly moistened mixture of peat and sand (in equal proportions). Cover the container with glass or plastic wrap and place in a cool place. Do not let the earth dry out.

After 10 days, roots and growth points will appear on the tubers, and the plants can be transplanted into a pot with a volume of at least 0.5 l, because Anemone does not like transplants. Plant tubers sprout up, deepening them by 5 cm. Put the pot on growing in a bright but cool room. The temperature should not exceed 16 ° C, otherwise the anemones will be frail.

When the threat of freezing frost disappears, anemones can be planted in open ground.

Germination begonias

Tuberous begonias appeared relatively recently - at the end of the XIX century, but have already managed to acquire many varieties and fall in love with flower growers all over the world. They are grown on window sills, balconies and, of course, on flower beds. These gentle lush flowers will not leave anyone indifferent.

In such begonias, instead of the usual rhizome, they have a tuber with a diameter of about 6 cm. From November to February, it is at rest, so you can begin to germinate it not earlier than the end of winter.

Before the procedure for disinfection and recovery, soak tubers for an hour in a 0.5% solution of potassium permanganate at room temperature or growth stimulator. Place the planting material prepared in this way for germination in a container with moss or peat so that the tops (concave side) protrude by a third above the surface.

Grow begonias on a light windowsill, regularly moistening the soil from the spray. The optimum temperature during this period is 18 ° C.

When watering, make sure that water does not fall on the tuber, otherwise it may rot.

When the sprouts reach 2 cm, the begonias can be transplanted into a separate pot by slightly pressing the tubers into the ground, but not sprinkling them on top of the ground (the substrate should consist of peat, sand and deciduous land in a ratio of 1: 1: 3). When unfolding on sprouts of leaves, carefully sprinkle tubers with moist soil.

During germination, perform several dressings, alternating mineral (3 g of ammonium nitrate and potassium sulfate, 6 g of superphosphate per 2 l of water) and organic fertilizers (1% solution of peat oxidate). Plant begonias in the soil not earlier than the end of May - beginning of June, when the threat of return frosts disappears after preliminary hardening of the plants.

You need to start with a plan

Before arranging landscape paths, they draw a diagram of the site, determine the geometry of the passages. The shape of the garden path does not have to be straight. There are no rigid frameworks when developing a project.

Some site owners prefer strict geometry. Then the tile for laying choose the appropriate, even shape. This can be a finished paving slab in the form of rhombuses, squares, rectangles, triangles. Suitable round saw trunks.

It is necessary to consider the location of plantings. Perennials, hedges, bushes with colored foliage: red, spotted, are planted along the borders.

Sometimes they make a snap to ready-made landings. Preserve coniferous and deciduous trees. Complement them with other types of plants. Lanes with this design should fit into the overall concept of the site.

What would you choose from the manufacturers of paving slabs or would you recommend to purchase?

Germination gloxinia

Another plant that needs to be germinated is Brazilian native Gloxinia. After flowering (in November - December), the plant is no longer watered and transferred to a dry, dark room with a temperature of 12 ° C. There, after the death of the ground part, he begins a period of rest.

Tubers are removed from the pot, treated with fungicide and stored in a box until February, sprinkled with vermiculite. They begin to germinate at the end of winter. Tubers are pickled in a weak solution of potassium permanganate or another fungicide, and then planted in shallow pots with a diameter of 10-15 cm.

The soil substrate should consist of one part of sod land, humus, coarse sand and two parts of leaf soil. In it, the tuber is deepened to a third of the height with the concave side up. Germination temperature should be around 25 ° C. With the onset of growth and rooting, it is reduced to 22 ° C during the day and 18 ° C at night.

After shoots 2-3 cm high grow on the tuber, the strongest 3-4 are left, the rest are plucked. A day after this procedure, the tuber is covered with soil substrate (the layer should be 0.5-1 cm) and watered. The pot is put on a permanent place. The southeast window is best suited for these purposes.

Sprouting calla lilies

Despite the fact that such a thermophilic plant, like calla, requires special growing conditions, it can please with its beauty both in a pot and in a flowerbed. However, in order for the flower to adapt better, it must be germinated before planting. Otherwise, the flowering will be late, but in the garden it may not come at all.

Germination of calla tubers contributes not only to its earlier and longer flowering, but also to the better development of the plant, increasing its resistance to adverse weather conditions and diseases.

Before proceeding with the procedure, you should choose a capacity for calla lilies (by the way, its second name is zantedescia), depending on where it is planned to be grown in the future. For germination before planting in the garden, any container for seedlings is suitable.

But if you plan to grow zantedescia indoors, you will need a pot with a volume of at least 5 liters, because the flower does not like transplants. Due to the fact that the plant needs daylight, it needs to be germinated no earlier than mid-March, or it will have to be lightened.

Zantedescian tubers should not be overdried or waterlogged. If there are areas with dry rot on them, they should be cut to healthy tissues, and the place should be treated with brilliant green. Before germination, place the tubers for half an hour in a Fitoverm solution or a pink potassium permanganate solution.

Then place the tuber with the flat surface down in a container with soil substrate (2 parts of peat, one part of garden soil and compost, half part of sand). Cover it with a layer of soil of about 2 cm and lightly tamp. Watering should be 1-2 times a week along the edge of the container or pot so that water does not fall into the middle of the tuber, and it does not rot.

Calla does not emerge until it forms a root system. Therefore, the sprouts will appear no earlier than in two weeks. When they reach 5-7 cm in height, add another layer of earth 2-3 cm thick to the container. Feed every two weeks with a solution of complex mineral fertilizer for seedlings.

The temperature in the room where calla germinates should be 15-20 ° C during the day and 13-15 ° C at night. Such a drop is favorable for the plant and we help it easier to transfer the planting to the flowerbed, which can be carried out by the method of transshipment no earlier than mid-May.

Sprouting canna

Growing such an amazing plant as canna will not cause much trouble even for a beginner grower. It is unpretentious, drought-resistant, almost not sick and blooms until autumn. Canna is similar to a hybrid of banana and gladiolus and decorative not only during flowering, but throughout the growing season due to its decorative leaves.

Like all thermophilic plants, it cannot winter in the open ground, therefore, before the onset of frost, rhizomes are dug up and stored in a dry basement, sprinkled with sawdust and earth.

At the beginning of March, inspect the rhizome, if there is damage, remove them, and grease the slices with brilliant green or powder with wood ash. Then divide the rhizome so that each split has several kidneys.

Tightly lay all this planting material in a moist substrate or sand, placing the growth bud horizontally, sprinkle sand on top and periodically spray with water. Put in a warm place for germination. The optimum temperature for this procedure is 20-24 ° C.

If you want the cannas to bloom earlier, then when they have sprouts, transplant each dividend into a separate pot and put in a bright room with a lower temperature (16-18 ° C). There they will grow and get stronger.

By the time of planting in the ground (mid-May), as a rule, 7-8 large leaves manage to develop on plants. By June, seedlings prepared in this way give flower arrows.

You can, of course, refuse to germinate the tubers of these thermophilic plants and plant them directly in the ground. But there is always a risk that they will not sprout or have time to bloom. So the choice is yours.

Cement walkway in the garden

In each private and summer house there is one or several pedestrian and garden paths used both to move around the site and to transport fertilizers and nutritious soil to trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetable plants. There are several technologies for arranging such communications.

However, the best option for price and durability is the cement tracks in the home. At the same time, for the pouring of cement tracks with your own hands, you do not need special skills and special technological equipment.

Consider the simplest, read the most budgetary technology for creating a cement path in a country house or a private courtyard, subject to all other conditions being equal: functionality, durability and ease of movement.

Stages of building cement garden paths

We determine the width, thickness and configuration of the planned structure. Since the garden and park path will be used not only for moving people, but also for transporting fertilizers, fertile soil, as well as for transporting fallen leaves and tops of flowers and garden plants, the width of the path should be equal to the wheelbase of the garden car, plus 100-150 mm to the side.

The wheelbase of a two-wheeled car with a carrying capacity of 50 kg is 700 mm, it follows that the width of the garden path should be at least 1000 mm or 1 meter. The thickness of the path for walking and riding with a garden wheelbarrow must be at least 50 mm.

The configuration of the structure can be straight with perpendicular branches or curving, enveloping obstacles. Which option to give preference is a matter of taste to the owner of the compound. It should be understood that the shortest path is a straight line. The considered technology of building a cement track in the country with do-it-yourself hands, repeatedly implemented in practice, does not limit the home craftsman in his desire to equip straight, winding or combined structures.

Materials and Tools

  • Main materials: Portland cement of the brand CEM I 32.5N PTs (M400), granite crushed stone of fraction 5-40 mm, building or river sand, clear water.
  • Well-fired red ordinary brick (can be used).
  • Stripes of sheet metal 100x50 mm, or stripes of window glass 100x50 mm 3-4 mm thick or wooden slats (shingles), dimensions 1000 x 50x3 (5) mm for expansion joints.
  • Mesh netting, steel mesh for plaster or used steel trash in the form of unnecessary strips of metal, pieces of thick wire, nets from old beds, etc. for reinforcement.
  • Metal go wooden pegs, twine for marking.
  • Polyethylene film.
  • To fill the garden paths with your own hands from cement, it is necessary to prepare bayonet and shovel shovels, metal buckets, a standard sheet of iron (1x2 meters) 1-1.5 mm thick or a concrete mixer.
  • Building level, building rule, putty knife

Preparation of the front of work for pouring

  • Marking the future design with pegs and twine. It should be noted here that, since red brick will be used as fixed formwork, the marking width is 1 meter + 130 mm (the thickness of two ordinary bricks).
  • Digging to a depth of 120 mm over the entire area of the track.
  • Installation of fixed formwork - red brick. Due to its dimensional stability - 120 mm wide, red brick can be used as a formwork and as a decoration for the borders of a track. On both sides of the future track, at its beginning, one brick is laid out in the format “per edge in length” and their horizontalness is ensured by using the level and adding soil. The next brick is planned horizontally “according to the previous brick”, and so, either until the end of the track, or until the end of the next portion of the fill. Brick in this embodiment performs several functions. The first function - serves as a “beacon for the upper boundary of the fill. The second function protects the external borders of the track from destruction. The third function - creates an architecturally finished attractive appearance.
  • Laying and tamping of the drainage layer (crushed stone and sand mixed in equal proportions) 70 mm thick.
  • Laying a reinforcing layer of mesh or unnecessary metal rubbish.

How to fill the cement track after preparatory work?

A concrete mortar of M150 grade based on cement CEM I 32.5N PTs (M400) is being prepared or purchased. Three options are possible here. The first option is to purchase the required amount of mortar at the nearest concrete plant. The second option is to use your own or rental concrete mixer to knead. The third, most budgetary option is to prepare the solution in portions on a steel sheet with a shovel and bayonet shovel.

Which option to choose, a private matter and the financial capabilities of a particular developer.

The solution for garden paths - cement and sand, as well as crushed stone is mixed in the following proportions, kg: 1 part of cement, 3.5 parts of sand, 5.3 parts of crushed stone, 0.9 parts of water. First, with the help of scales or buckets, cement, sand and gravel are measured and thoroughly mixed, then water is added, and all components are thoroughly mixed again.

The finished solution, with the help of a shovel, is carefully loaded into the formwork of bricks, rammed with a bayonet over the entire area, and carefully aligned with the construction rule and a spatula with respect to the upper cut of the brick.

To prevent the garden path from breaking during seasonal temperature differences, temperature joints are provided every 1-1.5 meters of pouring. The function of temperature joints is performed by metal strips, glass or wood strips installed perpendicular to the bricks. It is possible to arrange temperature seams by filling the edge of the next portion of bitumen pouring, however this is not very aesthetically pleasing, although it has the right to life.

Ironing

Immediately after pouring the next section of the track (from the temperature joint to the temperature joint), fresh concrete material must be ironed. A lot of specialized Internet resources, telling how to pour a cement path correctly, are silent about this operation for one reason or another.

The neglect of ironing results in the destruction of the upper layer of the site material first, after which the thickness of the concrete is destroyed with all the ensuing troubles.

Therefore, if the developer does not want to get a design that in a few years will become completely unusable, he must strictly follow the following technology of ironing the track surface:

  • Immediately after pouring, baying and leveling the mortar of the next batch of concrete, gently sprinkle the surface with a clean solution of a thickness of 2-3 mm.
  • Gently, by spraying with your hands or a garden sprayer, moisten the cement with water, making sure that there is no erosion to the base.
  • Use a construction spatula to “rub” in a circular motion moistened cement into the surface of the track.
  • Monitoring the correctness of the ironing operation - the surface acquired a blue-green wet, uniform color throughout the entire area.

Conclusion

This is the consideration of the question: how to properly fill the cement track can be considered successfully completed. It remains to add that on hot days, within 72 hours after pouring, the garden path should be moistened several times a day with water by spraying or cover its surface with plastic wrap.

How to make tracks in the country with your own hands: how to lay out + a device

Without country paths it is impossible to imagine a suburban area: they not only connect the house with other objects, but also perform an important decorative function. Choosing the right material, you can create a harmonious picture in a single style, and building paths in the country with your own hands - to turn a few hundred into a unique and comfortable territory.

Paths are the same important strategic part of a suburban area as a house, a garage or a bathhouse, so you need to think about their arrangement before building buildings and utility rooms. For convenience, it is better to draw up a diagram by drawing it by hand or using a computer designer program.Having identified the important points, it is necessary to connect them with paths - straight or curved, depending on the terrain.

To build a miraculous path, you will need an ordinary cement mortar and a plant that can be found somewhere nearby - burdock, or rather, its large leaves.

You can create your own more durable form for filling garden paths, read about it: https://diz-cafe.com/dekor/forma-dlya-zalivki-sadovyx-dorozhek.html

For the “clogging” of bricks in the sand it is better to use a special rubber mallet: metal or even wooden can damage the structure of the material

Choosing wood cuts, you kill two birds with one stone: “attach” unnecessary sawn trees and decorate the territory with a beautiful and practical path

An old tree can be found right in the country or in the nearest forest. We cut the trunk into small segments - from 10 to 20 cm thick. Thick knots will also come in handy - small round beads are suitable for decorating the site or the edges of the track.

There are several options for arranging a garden path from saw cuts: in one they use flat parts, in the other in the form of hemp

From material selection to filling |

Ironing

Immediately after pouring the next section of the track (from the temperature joint to the temperature joint), fresh concrete material must be ironed.A lot of specialized Internet resources, telling how to pour a cement path correctly, are silent about this operation for one reason or another.

From material selection to filling |

Each gardener who wants to equip his cottage is interested in making cement paths in the garden with his own hands. Improvement of the garden is a creative activity, which sometimes requires special financial and time costs. Making a garden path is not as difficult as it seems initially. It is enough to determine the material, form, location to get an interesting garden option for improvement.

Material selection

Creating a cozy garden path cannot do without imagination. This primarily concerns the material. Gardeners make objects for moving around the site of wood, brick, rubber, gravel, tile, pavers, etc. The most optimal in terms of financial and time costs is a concrete track. The landscape design of the plot with a slope also does not do without the arrangement of such a tool for convenient movement.

There are several reasons for choosing concrete as the main material:

  1. Concrete is a durable material, its main advantage is frost resistance.
  2. Concrete is easy to manufacture; it is made from a mixture of cement, sand and gravel.
  3. It is convenient to move along such a surface: it does not slip, does not cause uncomfortable sensations when walking barefoot.
  4. Excess moisture will not accumulate on cement surfaces.
  5. Buying materials to create a concrete track will not affect the budget. Many details can be done with your own hands.
  6. The design, after careful filling, acquires an aesthetic appearance, goes well with greenery and other elements of a country decor.

It is concrete paths in the country that are the strongest, most durable and most convenient; even an amateur gardener and a beginner landscape designer can make them with their own hands.

Preparation of materials and site for work

To successfully create a cement surface, you need to think through each stage of preparation and installation. Experienced summer residents are advised to adhere to the following work plan:

  • determining the location for the track,
  • calculations
  • marking the territory and its preparation for laying,
  • solution preparation

Concrete garden path

First you need to choose a place, calculate the length and width of the track so that it harmonizes with the rest of the territory. When choosing a place, the direction of the wastewater must be considered. The correct layout is extremely important for even placement of concrete and quality work.

For a small path that goes into the garden, winding shapes are suitable, the path leading to the house should be straight. The optimal width is 0.5-1 m, between the beds it is recommended to make them no wider than 0.4 m. Height is an individual matter, but it is better to adhere to a mark of 10 cm.

Marking of the territory is carried out in order to take into account all the surface irregularities. Pegs are driven into the edges of the proposed structure to make a rectangle. Then between them 2 cords are pulled in parallel, 2 perpendicular twines are tied to them. This device is called a "spider", it is the most convenient for exhibiting beacons. By moving the resulting sliders, you can easily set beacons smoothly. To determine the height, the cords stretched over the pegs are lowered and raised.

So that the cement structure is reliable, it is necessary to prepare the soil. To do this, dig out the top layer of the earth (about 20 cm), level the bottom. If the soil is dense and clay, then you need to increase the drainage layer:

  1. Geotextiles are put at the bottom of the track - a special material to maintain strength and drain excess fluid.
  2. Sand is poured in several layers, moistened with water and tamped.
  3. To improve the drainage properties between the layers of sand, it is recommended to pour a small layer of rubble or gravel.

STEINGOT Company

STEINGOT paving slabs are made on German automated equipment RH-2000-3 MVA using LanXess durable high-quality pigments.

Paving slabs of the STEINGOT company

  • service life up to 50 years,
  • durability (does not crack and does not crumble),
  • a large assortment,
  • environmentally friendly (does not contain harmful components),
  • not slippery.

  • sale is exclusively a multiple of the pallet,
  • the presence of marriage.

Self-preparation of quality concrete

To make a garden path efficiently, you need to mix concrete correctly. The main task is to maintain proportions. To prepare the solution, you need such a number of components for the mixture:

  • 1 bucket of cement
  • 1 bucket of crushed stone
  • 3 buckets of sand
  • 2 buckets of water.

For mixing, it is better to use a concrete mixer. Concrete will be ready when the mass becomes homogeneous. It should be careful with the addition of water, the mixture should be thick. If water is in excess, then the quality of concrete will be poor. Pour the mass on the day of its manufacture.

For the path to take the desired shape, it needs a special support - formwork. It is made of wooden boards, they are mounted along the marking stakes. The formwork must be strong to withstand heavy concrete mortar. The beauty and strength of the garden path depend on the stability of the support. Before pouring concrete, it is necessary to lubricate the partitions with technical oil or other lubricant, so that they can easily be separated from the concrete.

Sometimes concrete tracks crack from increased loads. Reinforcement will help to avoid this trouble - installation of a metal structure in a concrete slab. This work is carried out in the following sequence:

The fittings can be made independently of wire or metal mesh-netting.

  • It is better to place the structure in the middle of the layer, the cells should be made no more than 10 * 10 cm.
  • 1. The most inexpensive way

The track, which serves as a concrete mixture, poured between a pre-installed wooden formwork. Such a track, as a rule, is relatively solid and even, especially if you immediately order a mixer truck and be sure to invite several friends or neighbors as assistants, having prepared for the evening a couple of kilos of kebab as a thank you. In this case, the main work will take only a few hours, but the appearance of the track, of course, will be inconspicuous.

The easiest track does not require a lot of investment

However, the quality of the concrete mixture must be high, otherwise after a while the massive track may begin to crack and crumble, and it will have to be repaired constantly.

    Dishonest work result

You can save in price (but not in time) by making the mixture yourself using a small concrete mixer. If spending money on a mixer that will stand idle after making a track is impractical, then the mixture can be mixed manually in a trough or other suitable container.

In this case, you will spend several days off on the track, completely devoting all your time to making the concrete mix, but you will be sure of its quality. However, in different places of the track, cracks can still appear over time, since it was made in parts.

    Concrete track

To avoid this, you need to make a high-quality bunch of different sections of the track with the help of a reinforcing base in the form of a masonry net, etc. In addition, a gentle slope is left to go to fill the next section.

    Factory "Gothic"

The paving slabs of the factory are represented by four collections: Profi, Natur, Premium and Granite. One of the most economical is the Profi collection, made of high-quality concrete of the M400 brand. In average pricing - Natur. It is stylized under a natural stone the Premium class. In the manufacture of this collection, decorative aggregates are used: gravel, granite and more. The Granite collection is the most expensive, it repeats the texture and color of the original granite slab.

Paving slabs of the Gothic factory

    • exclusive collections
    • environmental friendliness.

    • more focused on municipal orders.

    Grouting and leveling

After preparation, the solution is carefully poured into the formwork, leveling with a shovel. It is recommended to lay out a layer of concrete slightly higher than the installed beacons. To seal, the solution must be punctured in several places with a metal pin, as well as lightly tapping on the edges of the support. After 1-2 hours, when the concrete settles a little, you can begin to level the surface. To do this, take an even rail, put on the edges of the formwork and move along the surface, thereby smoothing it. For alignment it is enough to hold a staff 3-4 times. To make the surface rough, you can use a special brush with a metal pile for work.

After a day, you can clean the surface, using a scraper it will be convenient to remove small tubercles and irregularities.

After leveling, the future path must be covered with tarpaulin or polyethylene. During the week it needs to be kept moist, in the heat it can be watered. In summer, concrete hardens within 4 days, in winter - up to 10-12 days. Formwork is removed the day after solidification.

    How to decorate a track?

Astilba with hosts along the track

Concrete paths in the country can become not just a convenient landscape detail, but a real decoration, if you get creative. Gardeners use several methods of decoration:

    • giving a relief shape,
    • staining
    • facing
    • drawing an ornament with a sharp object.

Create a relief surface will help special plastic molds. A portion of concrete is poured into the prepared place directly into the mold, wait a while for the mortar to set, move the mold and repeat the operation. In advance, you can make sure that the seams between the resulting figures are overgrown with grass. To do this, sowing plants resistant to trampling are sown: thyme, needle-shaped bryozoans, lawn grasses. After germination of the grass, the path will take on a natural look and become a worthy decoration of the site.

You can paint the concrete surface or add dye to the solution in advance. Impregnations of natural stone, gravel and pebbles look spectacular. Jewelry is placed in a solution 2-3 hours after it is laid. A mosaic of colored tiles will look creative. You can use any item as a decoration, you just need to show your imagination. 2-3 hours after laying concrete, you can apply the ornament with a sharp object, for example, a screwdriver, a peg. Along the border, it is appropriate to plant marigolds, hosts, astilbe or petunias.

To care for the concrete path, it will be enough to periodically moisturize it, and prevent the herbs from growing. A self-made and interestingly decorated concrete path after high-quality work done will become the pride of any summer cottage.

Do-it-yourself paths in the country (+ photo)

Do-it-yourself paths in the country can be made from a wide variety of materials. The main thing is that they organically fit into the atmosphere and please the owner. You can make tracks by looking at sketches in some magazines or on the Internet. And you can come up with your own design. Of course, some subtleties will have to be taken into account, because a number of materials need preliminary processing. For example, the wood will have to be protected, otherwise the path will become unusable very quickly.

    Made of stone

    Of tightly fitted stones

The paths in the country of stone will look very impressive. You can make them from the stones that remained after construction. Also suitable stones that have remained unused in an alpine hill. Such boulders will have an uneven, "torn" shape, which is just what is needed to create picturesque paths.

    1. Original garden paths First you need to calculate how many stones are needed to equip the path. This can be done in many ways. You can pre-position the boulders in the form of a path to see if there are enough stones or not.
    2. The place where the path is supposed to be made should be sprinkled with sand. It will become a kind of pillow for stones. Sand must be well compacted.
    3. Stones need processing. They are all too different in form, so it is unlikely that they can be successfully docked without additional work. In the work, you can use both a grinder and less powerful tools. Roughnesses on the surface of stones can also be slightly smoothed. You can do this manually. When the stones are ready, it remains only to lay them so that they create a single mosaic.

When the stones are laid, then you can close the seams between them. If the seams remain, then the track may begin to grow over time. However, this also has its own special charm, because such a path will look as natural as possible.

In order to close the openings between the stones, you can use a standard mixture of sand with cement. Country paths using stones and other similar materials have been known for a very long time. After all, stone was used in ancient civilizations. It allowed to hide the unaesthetic appearance of soil and dirt and give the streets and roads a noble civilization.

    Concrete

    Concrete footpath

The form for the construction of the Walkway at the cottage of concrete in its characteristics is almost similar to stone.

So that the concrete path does not look too primitive and rough, you can add a decorative element to it - pebbles.

    1. A bed about 10 cm deep is made.
    2. Sand is poured into the bottom and rammed.
    3. A concrete-sand mixture is poured from above. At the edges of the formwork is installed.
    4. Pebbles are poured on top of concrete that has not yet hardened. Pebbles should be distributed so that a beautiful decorative pattern is obtained.

That's the whole procedure for arranging such a track. The only thing to keep in mind is the need to install a drainage system next to such a path.

    Wooden

Of saw cuts in the process of work Paths in a country house made of wood will require leaving already at the very initial stage. However, with proper protection, such tracks will last quite a long time.

    • First of all, it is necessary to prepare wooden bars and boards. Instead of bars, you can also take steel corners or a pipe.
    • Bars and boards are treated with protective compounds: bituminous mastic, various impregnations.
    • After the composition has been absorbed into the tree, it is necessary to fill the boards on the bars.

Agril should be laid on the ground. This material will save the owner from the attack of weeds and other vegetation.

    • You need to mount the track on top. After the track is ready, it can be painted in any color.

From wood cuts Such paths can cheer you up, especially if they are colorful. Wood, being an environmentally friendly material, is great for creating various compositions.

Wooden garden paths are available to everyone. By the way, in the old days the city streets of Novgorod were paved with a tree. The material served well, despite the high mechanical stress.

    Brick

From brick To make paths in the country house from brick, you must first pick up the material. The brick is very fragile.

The brick should be checked in advance for strength. It is better to make sure that it does not crack.

    1. The track must be marked with pegs and rope.
    2. After removing about 25 cm of soil, it is necessary to lay down the drainage system. You can do with the simplest design that retains moisture.
    3. Crushed stone is poured onto the drainage system.
    4. At the edges it is better to put boards (sideways).
    5. The last stage is brick laying.

Layout of a brick track With the help of a brick, you can create many interesting options for tracks. For example, a brick crumb is excellent for arranging a garden path. You can also sprinkle brick on a concrete walkway. Broken brick allows you to create a beautiful mosaic pattern. Taking a brick of different colors, you can make a beautiful masonry with a pattern.

If desired, leave some distance between the bricks, which then fill with pebbles or small stones. Sometimes soil is placed in this place, and grass begins to grow between the bricks.

    2. The fastest and most unreliable way

A path from paving (or other) tiles laid directly on the ground or a small amount of concrete mix. In this case, before laying the paving slabs, level the place for laying, besides it must be rigid.

It would seem that everything is simple: I bought a tile, prepared a place, laid it down. Someone puts it on a sandy "pillow", and someone, so as not to strain again, is directly on the ground. The tile (usually square, 3 or 5 cm thick, with sides 30 or 50 cm) is rather heavy and should have remained in its place, but it wasn’t there.

    Tile on the ground

After the first spring, it can overgrow with weeds and disperse in different directions, forcing to regret the work done. In addition, the tile will already be all dirty, and you will have to do and correct the track again.

To keep the tile flat, it is often placed on the concrete mix, which improves the quality of the track. The cost of such work increases, but despite this, the track with a small thickness of the concrete base can also shift over time, since in spring the earth will sag along the edges of the track in the places where it is processed.

    In a couple of years

Sometimes concrete mini-slabs (used) without a pattern about 50x50x5 cm in size can be found on old abandoned parking lots, land dumps, etc. Some summer residents are happy to use them on their sites for this particular option of making tracks, not really worrying about aesthetic appearance, because the cost of such a track tends to zero.

    3. The longest, most expensive, but also the highest quality method

The path from paving slabs limited by right and left borders which are previously established on a concrete mix. This track is durable and has a beautiful appearance, smooth borders, almost always it is clean and dry.In the manufacture of such a track, you need to purchase not only tiles, but also curbs, and in addition, a significant amount of sand and geotextiles for the entire length of the track are required for the substrate for tiles or paving stones.

    Track with borders

But here it is worth being careful and buying building materials only from reliable sellers. If you blindly hope for honesty, then after a few years, supposedly high-quality tiles and borders can partially or completely become worthless.

    Deferred surprise

Also, for such a path, you still have to use a concrete mixture in order to establish the quality of the curbs. If this is not done, but put them simply by digging into the ground, followed by tamping the soil around, then after a while the curbs will still corrode in different directions. In this case, the track will be redone even longer than from scratch.

Another pitfall is that entrusting the manufacture of the track to other people, it is desirable to still control all processes - from preparing the foundation to laying tiles or paving stones, otherwise you still have to make the track yourself.

The result of poor preparation of the substrate for paving stones

    Conclusions and Preferences

After analyzing all the possible options, I chose for myself the third way of making the track in the country, but a little changed (it was decided to make the curbs on my own) in order to significantly save money.

You can make the border yourself.

As a result, in the country house, I had a beautiful and high-quality main central path more than 40 m long and 80 cm wide, which is very convenient for walking on, as it is high, wide and always clean. Everyone can make it on their own, so we will list what you need to have available for this.

    What was needed

    • the required number of paving slabs 30x30x3 cm for two rows,
    • 7-8 bags of cement of 50 kg,
    • fine gravel,
    • quarry sand
    • broken brick as an additional filler,
    • trimmings of the masonry mesh for the bundle of the border,
    • old boards and stakes for fastening formwork,
    • screwdriver and screws,
    • geotextiles
    • trowel and brush
    • level and tape measure
    • grinder with a circle on a stone and a hammer,
    • 2 buckets and a wheelbarrow for cement, water and sand,
    • car roof
    • skein of rope 100 m,
    • bayonet shovel for digging,
    • a hoe for making a mixture,
    • shovel for carrying.

    1. Stage marking the boundaries

With the help of a rope and pegs we mark the boundaries of the future path. It is advisable to mark the entire track immediately, as this simplifies the verification of the width during the excavation of the trench under the curb and ensures its straightness along the entire length. The sides of the tile must be measured (in my case, the dimensions turned out to be 30.3 cm instead of 30 cm indicated in the catalog), otherwise then it may not fit between the borders.

    Accurate measurements ensure even filling

We consider the distance between the inner walls of the borders with a margin (as two tile widths plus 3x0.5 cm for intermediate seams), i.e. 30.3 + 30.3 + 1.5 = 62.1 cm. Accepted with a margin of 62.5 cm Then we add the two planned widths of the border - we get the total distance between the outer edges of the borders. In my case, this is 62.5 + 10 + 10 = 82.5 cm. We stretch two ropes at this distance from each other and 5 cm above the ground, and then with a shovel we cut the ground under the rope along the entire length of the site.

To indicate the border of the inner walls of the curb, special accuracy is not required at this stage, since this distance will then be taken into account when collecting the central formwork for filling the curb. Therefore, we measure from the outer border the width of the border with a margin of about 5 cm (for the installation of internal formwork boards), then we cut and remove the earth from the trenches along the entire length of the future track. We cut the walls vertically, and align the bottom of the trenches horizontally, removing excess land. The depth of the trenches is about 10 cm.

    From sandstone

    Sandstone laying

The paths in the cottage of sandstone can be done in two ways:

    • classic dry way
    • using cement fill.

The latter method is very similar to laying a stone path. The dry method is more original and natural.

    1. First you need to make a trench by removing part of the soil. Then sand is poured onto the site, which is subsequently compacted. It is necessary to make the middle of the track higher, and along the edges it should have a slight slope. This is a kind of drainage system.
    2. When the place is prepared, you need to start processing stones. Sandstone can have a variety of shapes and sizes. It is advisable to pre-lay it on a future track and see how it will look before processing. Each of the stones must be aligned so as to minimize the gaps between the plates.
    3. After processing, the stones are laid on the track as if it is already ready.
    4. In order to conduct a classic laying of a sandstone track, you should prepare a bucket of cement mixture and a bucket of sand. Having lifted one of the stones, put sand under it. Then firmly press the stone to the surface. When he became stable, it was time for cement. Cement is not poured, as is the case with a stone path. The solution is applied in a small amount under the plate so as to slightly protrude from under it. Sandstone must be pressed firmly to the ground.
    5. Manipulations are done with each tile of material. The work will be long, but the result is worth it.

The finished sandstone path must be washed so that no traces of cement remain on the stones. Otherwise, the whole view will be damaged.

The crevices between the sandstone can be covered with sand or soil.

During operation, you need to stock up not only with patience, but also with a small pad. You will have to kneel a lot, and sandstone is not the most convenient material for such a pose.

    2. Formwork installation phase

When assembling the formwork, it is especially important to fix it with jumpers and screws so that the distance between the inner walls of the curbs after pouring the concrete corresponds to the previously calculated.

    Formwork installation

We install the central part of the formwork in the trenches in the center of the track (the stock of the width of the dug trenches allows you not to abut against their edges), after that we fix the formwork of the outer walls of the curb (it can be placed directly on the edge of the trenches) using stakes on the outside and jumpers inside. Between themselves, the formwork boards are additionally fastened with rails to ensure straightness.

Using the level, we ensure the horizontal position of the central formwork in width, placing small stones or sticks under it, where required. It is clear that the length of the track can go either higher or lower, depending on the slope of a certain section. The outer formwork may be higher than the inner one; this is not of particular importance when pouring.

Formwork on a third of the length of the plot

It is not necessary to put the formwork immediately for the entire track. This will complicate the approach to the trenches during pouring, and it is unlikely that there will be so much free wood that it will not be a pity to stain cement. After pouring part of the track, in a week the formwork can be partially disassembled and moved to a new place.

    3. Stage pouring borders

At this stage, for the manufacture of concrete mixes, you can use either a mixer (the expediency of the purchase of which was mentioned earlier), or mix the solution manually. For me, with my experience of pouring foundations under the house and the bath, the second option was preferable, so I had to get the roof of the car again and get down to business.

    Faithful helper

For the concrete mixture, the proportion was used: 1 bucket of cement for 3 buckets of sand and 4 buckets of rubble, a little more than one and a half buckets took water. Using a shovel, the solution is placed in trenches and rammed with a stick so that there are no voids left in it. From above, the mortar is leveled with a trowel (it is more convenient to use a rectangular one) flush with the central formwork.

    In progress

To save money, you can put broken brick into the solution, after holding it in a bucket of water for better adhesion. A cut masonry net will strengthen the curb along the length and ensure that there are no cracks at the joints with the new section if a long break occurs during the pouring process. Also for this, the edge of the curb is left stepped (gentle).

    Careful metering - level curb

The grass in the center of the track at this stage can not be removed, but from the trenches before pouring it must be removed.

    4. The stage of manufacturing the substrate for the tile

Since the path rises above the ground (everyone chooses the height for himself), before the correct laying of the tiles, it is necessary to prepare the substrate, which is used as a layer of geotextiles and sand "pillow". Geotextiles are laid so that the grass does not grow over time through the tiled seams of the path, and the sand ensures an even position of the rows of tiles in its center. It is advisable that the sand be wet.

    Tile underlay

Before that, we cut off irregularities on the ground and now we remove all the large vegetation from the space between the curbs, you can not touch the small grass. We lay a small layer of sand, filling it with the remaining parts of the trenches remaining on the curb after removing the formwork. Then we unfold the geotextile (previously cut in width, with a margin of 5 cm each) and fill it with sand above, leaving a distance to the upper edge of the curb equal to the tile thickness minus 0.5–1 cm.

It is not necessary to fill the entire path immediately with sand; you can do this as you lay several rows of tiles. Before laying, you can walk on the sand with a small hand-held roller for better density.

    Made of plastic

    Plastic country paths

Tracks in the country from plastic are created from ready-made modules. Probably everyone saw plastic grilles in front of the premises? That is exactly what such elements look like. They do not require special pre-treatment of the place. Plastic is a very durable material. It can serve an astonishingly long time.

Be sure to pay attention to plastic designs. They are very economical, do not need long installation and are easily dismantled.

Eco-friendly and aesthetic plastic is ideal for a cottage, and for a summer cottage, and in order to pave a path in the garden.

The list of various tracks listed here is far from being the most comprehensive. To make a track, you can use almost any material at hand. There are even paths from bottle caps.

To create something of your own, you can combine several different materials. The main thing is to show a little imagination. The tracks have not only practical, but also aesthetic and decorative functions. They can be as magnificent as a rock garden or a country pond. Before you make paths in the country, you need to go through several options and choose the one that really decorates the landscape and makes the garden attractive.

If there is no desire to use non-standard materials, then you can make them using a mold. By the way, this is an excellent garden tile. There are solid forms for tracks.

    5. Tile laying stage

Using a trowel, we pre-level and compact the sand, slightly raising the central part of the track above the edges.

Tile for a long time, but not difficult

We lay the tiles on the sand, periodically changing (turning) the pattern for a change. Often it is necessary to add or remove a certain amount of sand, as it happens that the thickness of the tile differs in the corners or the entire area by several millimeters from the declared one. Irregularities on the edges of the tiles are carefully knocked down with a hammer.

Change the position of the drawing when laying

After laying on the tile we exert a slight pressure (you can walk on it, jump), so that it finally takes its place in the sand, and all the rows are guaranteed to lie flat. Do not be afraid to get it dirty - everything will then be washed out of the hose.Do not forget to follow the geotextiles, so as not to forget in time to spread a new roll.

And in order to make the track more beautiful, the color of the tile can be periodically (but not often) alternated in rows or single inserts.

After a certain number of rows we make inserts of a different color

Where turns of the track are provided, we grind the tile to the desired size with a grinder, so that the turn turns out to be beautiful.

    Paving slabs are easily sawn

    6. The final stage

After the entire tile has been laid, spill the seams with sand or a dry mixture of sand and cement, using a brush to fill in the voids, and remove excess sand, sweep away with the same brush or rinse with water. There are many opinions on how to fill the seams - they also recommend a sand-gravel mixture left after crushed stone processing, etc.

Excess concrete on the curbs at the joints is cut off by a grinder. On the outside, sprinkle the border with earth, where necessary.

Align the outer wall of the curbs

All! We urgently weed the area overgrown during operation and fry the kebabs.

A good result is the path to new desires.

Now that the track is ready, and the first snow has already fallen, you can safely walk along it in boots, forgetting about the dirt and the inconveniences that were before. In the new season - with a calm soul and a new acquisition!

    At the end of October

As you can see, everything can be done on their own. And if a start has been made, then next year it would be time to think about a good two-wing gate.

    How now without a gate

Well, about the gates for the car ... I.

    • Read all comments from the beginning:

The most important thing is that you like your surroundings. Yes, and there are different bridges, but as always, I want my own. I also did not succeed with the winding ones, but somewhere closer to the natural nearby.

I have the main paths made of limestone, and the tile lies at the entrance of the front door both on the playground and on the recreation area

next to the pond a step-by-step path, without a border, in the grass.

step-by-step is clearly visible here, tile is a trace

here it is at the time of installation

and here is a pond with a bridge

Here are just those, step by step, with me. I do not like solid paving.

    I made the tile myself.

Hello! I bought plastic forms 10 pcs. For 130 rubles. 30030030 mm., And 4 forms for a curb. Cement M 500 1 to 3, river sand, small gravel, plasticizer. I made a vibrating table on one form, a concrete mixer on 2 buckets. When leaving for the cottage, one of the weekends, he made 10 tiles and 4 curbs each. This took 2.5 hours. When part of the tile was made, he began to make a path. First, I installed the curbs on the solution and strengthened them from the outside, then between the curbs a layer of sand fell asleep, rammed. Then he poured a screed with a thickness of about 12 cm. So as to lay the tile on the screed for 1-2 cm. An old chain-link was lying in the country, I drank it and laid it when pouring screeds. It was something like this: on Saturday, the screed was poured between the curbs, and on Sunday morning he laid the tiles on the mortar, then the seams between the tiles and curbs were rubbed with a half dry mortar.

Thank you, Konstantin, everything is informative ... I also pour tiles between the cases, however, the shapes are simple hexagons, a friend borrowed, I need to buy forms, a plasticizer over the winter, and try with pigments ...

For those who want to relax a bit and read a comic impromptu story, it seems ...

Dear readers, the answer to my question, unfortunately, was not followed by the author of the comment above, therefore there are big doubts as to whether the track proposed by him was made at all, or, as they say, “I heard a ring. "Because registration and a single comment, as a rule, in most cases mean ordinary spam, it is not clear why it was written. So, on the weekend I made a simple mathematical calculation of what the author of the comment above suggested to you to do for the manufacture of the track. And the result suggests that it is he who offers you how to not make a track in the country. Next, the calculation was made for a track with my parameters: 80cm wide and 42m long. And, since I like to write stories, we’ll add here some colors for a more interesting reading

    1. So, they suggest you in the country (At the Cottage, and not around the lunar module of the astronauts on the Moon and not on the approach to the Egyptian pyramids) to make a track to sample the soil MINIMUM 50 cm. Since it is written MINIMUM 50 cm, then we will take the next 60 see, mind you, not even 70. It is further assumed that an ordinary summer resident, whether it is me or a pensioner, takes a shovel and draws into the light of God's soil volume, you just think about it! - 0.8m width x 0.6m depth x 42m length = 20.16 cubic meters. Black earth weighs about 1.45 tons / cubic meter, and loam, which often starts with 30-40 cm in depth, weighs 2.71 tons / cubic meter, so for simplicity we average and take the value of 2 tons / cubic meter. Those. you are offered to make a track to make a moat and throw 40 tons of soil onto the surface (the same weight as a light tank). Already imagine this process in reality. Friendly, all summer residents on the array dig ditches.

    2. You, for example, are a fan of digging deep trenches and yet decided to hire a team of excavators who do not do charity work and will charge you 25-30 rubles for work, since they are ready to dig a hole for the foundation of a house in a summer cottage for 10-15 thousand, and it is for the home, for example, 6x6m in size, will be 2 times smaller in volume. You think and begin to doubt, but don’t worry, because there is a way out - see point 3 ...

    3. If you get along with animals, you can save on diggers and try to tame and train a small colony of good-natured moles. With a diameter of the average mole of 7 cm, its cross-sectional area will be 3.14x0.035x0.035 = 0.00385 sq. m. And the cross-sectional area of the ditch that you need to dig is 0.6x0.8 = 0.48 square meters. m. Thus, you need to tame a flock of moles in the amount of 0.48 / 0.00385 = 125 individuals. After they dig a moat for you, for humanitarian reasons, you can give them snacks in knots and let them go home.

    4. Now you need to put this volume of soil 20 m3 somewhere, but for simplicity of perception, imagine - this is a column of 2 m by 2 m in length and width and 5 m in height. And all this land lies with you on both sides of the moat, falling asleep with everything that is possible. Of the 8 acres of cottages, it is unlikely that you will find so much space for backfilling, because you will not fill up strawberries, trees and other plantings, around the house and the bathhouse too, otherwise the blind area will be below ground level. Remains about 1-1.5 acres under the garden. Plus, clay and loam will still have to be removed. The way out is to take out the whole earth behind the fence and put it into a huge neat pyramid of five meters height with the sides of the base 2 by 4 m. In winter, you can water it on top of the snow that has fallen and make an ice-cream for the kids.

    5.

    6. But this is not all, the most terrible is yet to come. After all, now you have to pour small, expensive gravel into the ditch, namely the same 20 cubic meters. I open the Internet and watch - 1 m3 of gravel gravel of fraction 5x20 costs 2360 rubles. If you order immediately 20 m3, then we get a discount and we manage the amount of 36000r. True, it is not clear whether delivery is included there, because summer residences can be very far away. And all this is only for a pillow under the track, since there is still a working part of the track, which should rise above the ground. And there are curbs, and cement-sand mix, and tile ... So, Kamaz with a carrying capacity of 15 tons can bring you an average of about 10 tons of rubble due to the limitation of the volume of the body, so the summer resident is invited to buy and pour 2 such Kamaz into the earthen moat . 2 Kamaz. For the track. In the country. After all, the article is about making a track in the country. But about what the comment was under consideration, it is not clear Gravel gravel weighs 1.35 tons / cubic meter. That is, now you have to throw 27 tons of crushed stone into a ditch. Well, or to demolish the fence and pour it there directly from the trucks, which will break you all the buildings and plantings. But the option is already I can imagine how the summer residents lined up and are already calling, ordering 2 Kamaz gravel each, to ram it into the ground for the track.

6.By the way, it will be very convenient to just throw 40 tons of earth extracted from the ditch into the same Kamazs with shovels (they will throw it in a couple of days), thus, in two flights they will remove unnecessary soil to the places of free soil reception. This is another 20 thousand diggers and 10 thousand drivers, here moles will not help.

    7. I think that’s enough for that. Oh, I still had to write a full-fledged story with drawings, on a scale that takes into account all the proportions. Anyway.

    8. Well, and paragraph eight. It is a pity to waste time on such calculations, but, unfortunately, you can’t put a “spam” emoticon on a comment. Therefore, in the future, comments of this order I will leave unanswered. I am writing about personal experience and the real realization of something in life, and not about "how to and how not to." The point here is not a track at all. Naturally, different people like different cars, different houses, baths, paths, and this is wonderful, because there is plenty to choose from. And each person has the right to self-expression in the comments, it is only a pity that often, besides misleading readers, they carry little in themselves that is close to reality. Although, perhaps, an error occurred, and the commentary flew off to the wrong place, but in fact it was really intended to discuss the construction of the lunar module ... Good luck and prosperity to everyone.

From wood, plastic, stone + paving examples

The first thing that meets us at the country gate is a garden path leading to the porch. From it in all directions: to the bathhouse, and to the garden, and to the garage - similar paths and paths scatter. It is always more pleasant to walk on a strong, well-groomed surface, especially when the grass is wet from the rain or clay soil. Forget about the designers and try to make garden paths with your own hands, and for this you only need desire and building material, affordable and inexpensive.

There are no classifications of any kind - both by material for manufacture, and by location, and by size. We will take the division into species based on the method of the device.

    Company "Stone Age"

Today, the manufacturer offers various paving options, including curbs, retaining blocks, etc. For manufacturing, the company uses an automated German OMAG line. The nomenclature of the company has special collections. For example, the Belpasso Premium collection is made without chamfers, with it you can implement the project “without a barrier environment” with an even coating.

    Garden trails

This is a natural view, since the paths appear on their own, without special planning. Usually they are trodden on people's feet or tamped with wheels of garden equipment and serve to connect the most important points of the site - a house, a bath, a garden, a garden, a wicket. A regular dirt path has disadvantages (dirt after rain, puddles, grass overgrowing), so it is only possible as a temporary option. By the way, the path can also be ennobled: just put a curb made of cobblestones or paving slabs at the edges.

Garden trails - the best option for plots located in dry areas

    Backfill paths

They are easy to arrange: you should dig a ditch, about 100 mm in depth, lay on the bottom and edges geotextiles (density of at least 150 g / m²), strengthen the sides with a border tape. It will remain on a ready basis to fill in pebbles, crushed stone, marble chips or screenings. If this option seems simple, you can additionally lay stone or concrete slabs on the surface - in an orderly or chaotic manner. For ease of movement, the plates should be recessed in the backfill so that they are at the same level with the surface.

Having picked up gravel or crushed stone of different color, it is possible to decorate paths or to divide them into zones

    Solid filler paths

The durable coating is ideal for heavy loads.Paving of garden paths takes place on a concrete base with further laying on it of decorative elements: tiles, paving stones, natural stone. The use of materials of different colors gives the decor a natural look. It is better if the finished object will rise above the ground by 50-70 mm - this will save it from erosion by water and soil sediment.

Slabs or stone tracks laid on a concrete base are reliable and durable.

The budget and favorite option for gardeners is garden paths made of wood. The most popular are two types:

    • using wooden blocks,
    • from wood saw cuts.

If the climate is rather dry than wet, you can use wooden blocks or thick boards, which are easy to purchase in any building supermarket. It is better to stay on hardwood. The same segments are cut (100 cm long, 30 cm wide and 15-20 cm thick) and laid on a prepared base - gravel or sand.

Each bar should be treated with fuel oil or a special compound that protects against moisture and decay. For the same purpose, liquid asphalt is applied to the underground part of the bar, and sometimes a standard sand cushion is arranged. It is better to lay such combined coatings in the fall, as in the winter time the soil settles, due to which the natural tamping takes place.

For paths from wooden blocks it is better to use fine gravel or crushed stone

Using cuts of different sizes and colors, you can create unique options for tracks

Old fallen trees in the country - a real find for craftsmen. Sawing the trunks into parts, from the obtained elements - saw cuts - you can make wooden garden paths that look equally good, crossing the lawn or looping among the flower beds. Not only trunks will be used, but also thick branches, with cuts of which it is convenient to fill the voids between large elements.

Screening strengthens the individual elements, and geotextile protects the path from the germination of grass

In order for wooden products to serve for a long time, they need to be treated on all sides with hot drying oil, it is better to repeat the procedure twice. A piece of geotextile or polyethylene is placed between the saw cut and the ground.

With the help of pictures and descriptions, you can imagine how to make paths in the garden from paving slabs - a noble and durable material.

Irregular paving slabs look more natural than straight lines

    To work, you will need:

    • wooden mallet,
    • rubber mallet
    • stakes
    • Master OK,
    • building level,
    • cord,
    • rake,
    • broom,
    • watering hose
    • channel,
    • manual ramming.

Materials: paving slabs (thickness 50 mm or 60 mm), curbs, crushed stone (fractions 20-50), dry mix for plaster or cement M400 (M500), sand, geotextiles.

Now consider all the stages of the work. The first stage is planning. It includes the creation of a drawing, the choice of styling patterns and shapes of curly elements, the choice of color (or several colors). At the same time, they calculate the number of tiles (including spare ones) and the consumption of the rest of the material.

There are many schemes for laying paving slabs based on the alternation of products of different colors

Next, do the markup. Accuracy of actions is one of the conditions for proper installation. Tape measure, pegs and cord will help determine the boundaries of the work. Sometimes you need to walk along the proposed path to understand how it is more convenient to lay it.

For the device of the track from paving slabs, the accuracy of the marking and the sequence of work are important

After marking, it is necessary to prepare the base. First you need to cut the top layer - sod to a depth of 20 cm. If the soil is clay, drainage will help. Then you should create a sand or gravel cushion and cement (concrete) screed.

The multilayer base under the tile is necessary so that the track is durable, does not settle and is not washed out by water

Between layers of sand and gravel it is possible to lay a geotextile, which makes the structure more durable. The top layer is a dry mixture purchased in a store, or a self-made composition of sand and cement. The layer of the mixture (3-4 cm) should be leveled with a rake and channel.

Uniform distribution of the cement mixture is carried out using a conventional garden rake.

Channel for leveling the surface can be replaced with a conventional wooden beam

Now we are laying the tiles. The laying direction is on your own, so as not to spoil the base. Products must be laid tightly, but with a gap of 1-2 mm. Each tile must be tamped with a wooden mallet. At the end, it should be checked with a level and trimmed with a rubber mallet. First, whole elements are laid, and only at the end they cut paving slabs and lay the missing pieces.

For high-quality laying of paving slabs simple tools are needed - a rubber mallet and a wooden mallet

For ease of installation, whole products are placed first, leaving voids at the edges

The voids along the curb are filled with pieces of tile of the required size

At the edges, lay a border, fix it with M100 solution and fill it with sand. The seams between the individual elements are covered with a sand-cement mixture, which is then moistened with water from a hose. Add the mixture to the places where it sank, and repeat watering. After 2-3 days, the track will be finally ready.

Spectacular stone garden paths can be made from material left over after building a house or backyard decor, such as an alpine hill. Picturesque paths are created due to the uneven shape and different size of the stones.

To create a beautiful path, stones of different sizes and colors are suitable

The first stage is the calculation of the number of large stones. To do this, they can be laid along the future trail. The basis for laying is a pillow made of sand poured into a shallow ditch, directly onto the ground.

Perhaps, to dock the stones, they will need to be processed. A grinder or a more serious tool will help. You can arrange the finished material in two ways: in the form of a pattern (relief, mosaic) or in a chaotic manner, alternating large stones with smaller ones. If you do not hammer the seams between the stones with a cement mixture, after a while they will overgrow with grass. This option is also possible, it looks more natural.

The diagram shows the approximate thickness of each layer, which should be followed during installation

The combination of stones of different species and plants is an example of a path suitable for a site in the Mediterranean style

Stone paths and paths are appropriate when creating a landscape picture of any style.

If there is no time to build a solid stone or tile coating, but there is a desire to quickly install the paths in the garden with your own hands, you can use the temporary option - garden plastic paths. Ready-made modules, most often the same in size and color, are sold in the store.

The color of the plastic modules is selected depending on the area on which they will be laid. Most often these are green or black products

In addition to low cost, plastic tracks have other advantages:

    • keep their shape and appearance for a long time, wear out slowly,
    • have holes so that water does not accumulate and goes into the ground, that is, they do not form puddles and do not create a smell,
    • plastic practically does not rot;
    • do not require constant care and attention, they are well cleaned and washed with water from a hose,
    • resistant to chemical attack
    • quickly mounted and assembled according to the principle of the designer,
    • equally easily laid on any base - sand, turf, clay.

At the end of the summer season, the plastic modules are dismantled, washed, dried and stacked in the utility room until next year.

Plastic paths - a good option for creating temporary tracks on lawns

Paths on a summer cottage are created not only for practical use, but also for decoration of the territory

In addition to the listed options, there are other types of garden paths - brick, from parquet, concrete blocks, as well as all kinds of combined options. The basic rule for choosing the material for the track: it must be combined in texture and color with the house and other buildings.

How to make paths in the garden with your own hands.

Garden paths are one of the most important elements of a summer cottage. They provide us with comfortable movement in the garden, convenient access to all garden buildings. What are the tracks? Is it possible to make them yourself and how difficult is it? How to choose material for tracks? We will answer all questions in this article. And also give some original ideas. So, if you decide to do your own laying of paths in the garden:

    1. Develop a plan.

First of all, it is necessary to draw a diagram of the site, mark future tracks on it. The main principle is ease of movement, it is also necessary to take into account the landscape features of the territory. Do not make too winding paths, they make it difficult to move around the site. However, a straight line is also not always the best solution.

The width depends on the material, design, and also on the purpose of the future track. The usual width is 0.6-0.9 m.

    2. Select the material.

Here are examples of how tracks from different materials look:

    - Paving slabs or brick is a classic. Such a track is of high quality, durable, looks good, but has a high price and is difficult to install.

“You can make wonderful paths out of gravel.” Their appearance is interesting and unusual, it is useful to walk on them barefoot. In addition, gravel is environmentally friendly and durable. Nevertheless, such tracks are intended only for the movement of people; it is difficult to roll a wheelbarrow along them or ride a bicycle. And small children and animals will drag gravel through the garden.

    - Wood Kruglyashi - a very popular material for paths. It looks great, walking and driving is also quite comfortable. But unfortunately, its service life comes down to 3-5 years. To extend the life of the tracks, you can only constantly fake them, replacing the rotten round beads with new ones. This is quite laborious and not always justified.

    - The cheapest material is concrete. Perhaps this track is not the most interesting or unusual, but if you add a little imagination, and it will make a very beautiful sweetie. For example, you can paint a track with paints or insert decorative elements into it when laying.

    - The concrete path can also be laid out with round sea pebbles. Photos of such tracks are now very often found on the Internet and various thematic magazines. It is really very beautiful, but incredibly laborious!

    - Combined tracks and tracks from decorative elements look unusual.

Here is an example of how to make decorative tiles with your own hands:

    a) prepare a cement mortar,

    b) a large sheet (e.g. burdock) is laid on a flat surface,

    c) spread the solution with a thickness of 5-7 centimeters on the sheet and with the help of a spatula, carefully level the surface and the edges,

    d) let the solution freeze.

Here you are ready for an interesting decorative element in the shape and pattern of the sheet. About other options for the manufacture of decorative elements, we wrote in the article "Form for a garden path with your own hands."

But back to our main topic.

    3. Getting started.

We will consider how to make the most common types of paths with our own hands: from concrete, brick and wooden round timber (saw cuts).

The preparation for all types of tracks below is the same. We mark the territory, remove the turf and several layers of soil. The depth of the trench should be at least 30 cm. We put a “pillow” of sand and gravel in the trench. Tamp well, spill with water.

    Concrete track:

We prepare the mixture - one part of cement, 4-5 parts of river sand, one part of water. Stir. The mixture should have a consistency of thick sour cream. We install boards along the edges of the track, they will be limiters for the solution. We fill in a part of concrete on the “pillow” and press the reinforcing mesh into it. Mesh pitch not more than 50 mm. If necessary, pour a little more solution on top to hide the grid. Level the surface, making it slightly convex in the center (this will provide a drain of water). Concrete should solidify well, it will take at least 2 days.

    Brick walkway:

In place of the curb, we install a wooden frame. We spread the brick here with the butt and tightly fix it with a rubber mallet. Then we lay out the rest of the track, here we put the brick at a small distance from each other (several mm), and overwrite the seams with sand. The wooden frame is not removable.

    Wood Round Track:

From logs we saw round round 10-20 cm high. The type of tree is not important, the main thing is a beautiful saw cut. Then we dry and round the rounds to give greater durability with linseed oil or bitumen. When the waterproofing layer is ready, lay down the saw cuts. All can be laid out one-dimensional rounds or combine them with smaller ones. We drive in each round, we ram, the gaps are covered with wet sand and also tamp. Next, pour concrete to the middle of the kruglyash, and top, after the solution is taken, we fill it with sand or pebbles. If it is supposed to have borders, we measure the place for them in advance. For borders, low logs with a diameter of about 10-12 cm are best suited. Of these, steps are made in places of height differences.

And some more quite original ideas for the tracks for the site:

But this is a bad idea:Such a lawn path, unfortunately, looks good only in the picture. In real life, even the most durable lawn gets trampled over time.
